Have you tried a Scythe Zipang or Shuriken CPU cooler?

I'm trying to make quieter my Intel Q6600 fitted with a bog-standard Intel Stock Cooler

I was tempted to go for a Scythe Zipang or a Scythe Shuriken, but I'd appreciate any comments from current users, as well as possible alternatives that do not require me to remove the MB.

No doubt that those are decent coolers but I think you might want to look at sites other than frostytech for determining what will be the quietest. Frostytech are fine but they review based on the stock fan only.

Have a look at Silent PC review (SPCR). They test heatsinks with a reference fan to judge the best performance. You can easily buy a Scythe fan (they do some excellent ones, available at specialtech for a decent price) and stick it on a Xigmatek heatsink for example.

Although I find the Silent PC review (SPCR) site a bit confusing I had never thought about changing the stock fan, but it does make a lot of sense.
