    USB sound card

I need to get a USB sound card for my old presario R3000 laptop as it doesnt support 5.1 surround, and I'm looking to use it as a multimedia base in my bedroom.
    Can recommend a sound card?

looking at these two products right now:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sound-Blaste...290319-4237306

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-70S...06TPP8JWTBNC63

tempted by both of them, although heard bad things about x-fi. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks in advance

    Re: USB sound card

Despite the X-Fi Surround 5.1 USB (1st link) bearing the X-Fi brand, it's not too different from the SB Live 5.1 External (2nd link) in terms of hardware, they both use the same family of audio chips if not the same. In other words that X-Fi isn't a 'true' X-Fi.

However, the X-Fi looks nicer and comes with a remote, it's only £1 dearer so between the two I'd go for the X-Fi.

The bad things you've been hearing about the X-Fi are probably about its drivers, previously riddled with bugs and disabilities most of the issues have been ironed out. Besides, 99% of these complaints came from desktop users with 'true' X-Fi cards.
