Matty - I still win but were within spitting distance now as we are running at effectively the same, but my FSB is higher (I very much doubt you will get it up to 500 on your quad though ) which is giving me the edge.

Hicks - To speed it up you will need to push the FSB up, and change the timings to 4-4-4-12 that first 4 is the really important one

Oh and running stuff in the background will have an effect yes, mine was running with a few things in the background, firewall Anti virus etc.

i think my RAM's done extremely well though..
1000MHz @ 4-4-4-12 when it's rated at 800MHz @ 4-4-4-15
and only on 2.2v aswell.

You will be hard pressed to get much more than you have now at 4-4-4-12 my sticks which are rated for 1150 5-5-5-15 probably wont like much more (especially since I can't give them the 2.3v they really want, damn BIOS with +0.4V as a max)

just tried forcing CL4 and it actually seems to have killed my mobo ()

tried clearing CMOS multiple times

it now wont post, keeps freezing at the splash screen and goes crazy if i manage to get into the BIOS

edit: hmm, it seems the RAM is eff'd in the a, just swapped out to a single stick of my old stuff and it posts (ish) but windows is dead too () and it's refusing to boot from the DVD ()

edit2: looks like i've got to back up from a livecd and re-install () i've been needing a re-install too ()

tis the difference the onboard memory controller makes

it's prolly the only thing AMD has going for it's CPUs at the minute TBH... and it makes naff all difference

Well I decided Matty was getting a little to close for comfort so turned off a few processes AV etc and reran and got this,



A few points better all round and a fair bit in copy, will maybe try my brothers Phenom later to see what we can get from that

Vista x64 here, it looks like XP anyway as the buttons at the top right corner always stay XP style.

according to Webby's 'My System' bit he's running win XP SP3.
i'm Vista x64.
but surely running it on Xp will make a difference?
and probably quite marginal.
XP stresses the memory muss less than Vista does, and also uses much less memory than Vista.

yay i won on memory write and lost on the rest . Cant get 500fsb stable , volts on the NB will help yeh? think its 1.32v now.

Knock the timings down to 4-4-4-12 that will give you a healthy boost You may need to give the sticks a touch more voltage to achieve it though.
