I am waiting for the netbooks spec to go up and screen sizes too for the same money. As they are relatively new I don't feel that buying now is the best option, for me anyhow.

    <sighs>

So netbooks are designed to be small? Hmmm interesting concept. Maybe that is why there are 3 different screen sizes at the minute?

A laptop? Now why didn't I think of that - really that is a good idea

Re: Samsung NC10 - Anyone got one yet?

Yep, they're small by design . There are different screen sizes, but the smaller screens have thick frames and the physical dimensions of the netbooks tend to be about the same. Basically, they're ultra-portable laptops for people who want full laptop capabilities in a smaller, lighter package.

In terms of value for money though, the Samsung seems to be among the best you can get at the moment.

Re: Samsung NC10 - Anyone got one yet?

There are only 2 actual case sizes, the 10" base and the 11" base

Laptop go all the way down to 12" screens and have more performance.

Netbooks are never going to have massive performance for low cost, because high perfromance cpu's, larger screens, better onboard graphics all cost more.

it's as bad as some of the reviews, they loved the asus 701 for it's small size but complained the keyboard is too small
they said the hp 2133 has a nice sized keyboard but complained that it's bigger than the 701

No, they don't. There's a blanked off panel behind the battery where the port will be in future models. I suppose this could also be used to mod it and add the necessary module for those of us who aren't guaranteed to break it as soon as we take it apart.

Re: Samsung NC10 - Anyone got one yet?

I tried an Asus netbook today and was impressed with the display I must say!! What I didn't like was the compressed keyboard layout which is unavoidable on such a neat little (and very lightweight) device. I understand the Samsung has a better sized layout for those of us who touch-type or have bunch-o-banana hands

Did like the 'displays' on the Netbooks just the keyboard on the smaller ones would rule them out for me. Dell have a 12" Netbook at above laptop prices but then it is Dell

Just a side note but I read online recently that Netbooks are just a fad and won't last due to low processing power, physically weak design etc... Not my opinion but will be interesting to see where technology takes us the next year or two.

The NC10 keyboard is great, although I have had a few problems getting used to the location of the right shift key. I end up typing instead of :

Oh, and I saw the NC10 on display in PC World the other day, so you should be able to try out the keyboard for yourself.

Sounds good. What is the wireless range like and building conditions tested in, AP antenne dbi etc as this isn't that good according to a review posted a couple of days ago online?

It would seem that Samsung will be bringing out a Linux version of the NC10 at some point. Hopefully draft 802.11n will be included too

I'm thinking about getting one of these in the summer, for typing my lecture notes.
How do they compare to regular keyboards for word processing/typing?
Reckon they'll have come down in price by July?

    No and Yes
In theory the prices should come down slightly, esp on these ones, esp if there are newer versions /increased specs on other models.

We in the situation that the early models were cheaper but lower spec, people have demanded high spec and so it's raised. However the higher spec has pushed the prices up.
With more companies getting in on the netbook wagon we should get the prices dropping a bit more as the competition increases.

However with the current financial conditions and weakening pound the prices could still shift in almost any direction and cancel any lowering.

I have been looking for a netbook over the last few days, and I am torn between the Eee 1000H, this and Advent 4211 (MSI Wind).

They are all around the same price, and I would upgrade the ram to 2gb, and install a 7200rpm drive in which ever I get.

I think I will take a trip down to currys and see them in the flesh.
