2.5" Portable HDD
hey guys,
I'm in the process of ripping a collection of my dvds, converting them and then copying them onto my htpc. I'm using my main rig to rip and convert because it has 2 disc drives and is much more powerful so therefore faster. However the process of transfering the files to my htpc is going to take ages as each file is about 2gb and i have a large collection, with only a 4gb and 8gb memory sticks to move them. This takes ages to put the file on the sticks and copy them off therefore i'm looking into either buying a decent external 2.5 hdd or an internal one with an enclosure seperate. I dont really want to spend more then 40 quid and i know for that i could get external 3.5 inchers but i want the small one so it is portable, doesn't need a seperate power supply and well... you can never have too much storage:D ... so basically anyone recommend a decent external or internal with caddy... anything more than 20gb will do and esata would be best...cheerz in advance...

Re: 2.5" Portable HDD
Pretty much only get USB 2.5" externals as far as I know due to the power constraints. I have a WD Passport 160GB and its been perfect for a year or so :)
Something like this
http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...Cache%2c+12+ms
and a cheap £10 enclosure would do though, scan have enermax ones.

Re: 2.5" Portable HDD
i was thinking this samsung:
http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...Cache%2c+12+ms
with this icybox:
http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...A%2c+Ext+caddy
icybox site says it is bus powered... i mean i know the westerndigital is only a few quid more but will there be a big difference between usb and esata

Re: 2.5" Portable HDD
eSATA will make a fair bit of difference to shifting lots of files in big chunks.
I didn't see that one though, looks good.
I'd take WD everytime but thats me, everyone has a preference.
Tbh I've been where you are, all I do is run a sata cable and sata power out of the case and use the HDD with no enclosure. Never had a problem with it lol

yeh thats much simpler and cheaper lol, but i prefer the esata for speed otherwise i could save some cash and get a larger usb stick... i'll have to think this over lol... cheerz tho
