    Is 4gb RAM worth it?

For £40 if I'm still running 32bit XP? I know it won't see all of it, but it'll see 3 and a bit I think?

    Yes Tumble, it is

3.25 gig. Makes quite a difference over 2gig specially for multi tasking.

Re: Is 4gb RAM worth it?

    I have to agree.

I'm running 32bit Windows XP, and recently installed another 2Gb. Yes, I only get 3 and a bit gig of ram, but it makes a difference.

Re: Is 4gb RAM worth it?

Not a lot of extra cash really is it? I've got 4gb and vista 32bit -so annoyingly only 3gb shows up, but how can a bit extra ram do you any harm

i also agree it does depend on your usage for xp but vista eats alot of memory idle so it is a worthy investment

Re: Is 4gb RAM worth it?

I was thinking of upgrading my RAM as well but i already have an existing 2gigs. Won't hurt to pop in another 2x2gb for a total of 6gb right ? Reason for this is to maintain dual channel, and well, RAM is cheap nowadays.

I just hope my games and engineering applications work in 64 bit vista.

Re: Is 4gb RAM worth it?

    hello,

You will see only a minimal difference in FPS in games. However, the loading times are vastly improved for almost everything.

I read a Corsair article on this a while back, I'll try to find it for your later on.

I'm running 4GB (or 3.25GB...) on 32-bit XP and the main change I noticed going from 2GB, is just how quickly I now have control of my PC after quitting a game, it's instant. Plus it's good to have in case you decide to change your OS to the memory hungry beastie that is Vista.

Have a quick gander at your motherboard manual and see what the max it can handle is.

I just tried that, took 2 gig out and you're right... it's noticeable.

Re: Is 4gb RAM worth it?

with 4GB of RAM on 32bit, is it ok to reduce paging size on HDD to the min (2mb) or what should it be kept at to avoid problems?
