Can it run a 40" Sony LCD?
Hi everyone.
I have this graphics card....EVGA 9800 GTX 512MB NVIDIA XFX , been specially overclocked and has the bios reset to boot up at the new settings, the question is, I have a Sony 40in 1080P KDL40L4000 HD Ready Digital LCD TV, can I use it as a monitor, if so how good will the picture be, and how would be best to connect it, my pc has 8gb 1066mhz ram, Phenom 9850 and this card. I would like to know before I decide to mount it or stick with my 22"Samsung Synmaster 226bw, my sons hankering after this if I go ahead, all opinions appreciated, is it worth doing..cheers.:help:
Re: Can it run a 40" Sony LCD?
If the TV is 1080p (which you suggest it is) then ithe resolution will be 1920*1080. You can connect it to a DVI port if the TV has one if not you can use a DVI to HDMI adapter to connect it via a HDMI cable.
The only issue you may have is with how far from the screen you are sitting, you are going to need to be 6-8ft from the screen for the image to look good and be comfortable to use.

If I connect it DVI-Hdmi as you say,how good a picture will it be, will it be HD quality, also if I install a blu-ray player in my pc will I be able to watch films in full HD, sorry to ask, just want to know what to expect, and how good a picture, thanks.:O_o1:
Re: Can it run a 40" Sony LCD?
so long as you set it to 1920 x 1080 it will be hd quality and will look lovely :)

Re: Can it run a 40" Sony LCD?
Whats the difference in cables between a DVI-P and a DVI-D, saw this (QED Qunex HDMI/DVI-P Cable - 3m) and was not sure whether to go for it, need a long cable and one of top quality but the 'P' bit at the end has thrown me a bit., will it make no difference but be fine to connect my Sony 40" to my PC DVI port on the graphics card?
Cheers
Re: Can it run a 40" Sony LCD?
Not sure what the P stands for, I can't find any reference for that particular acronym. However the chances are that you'll be fine whichever you pick.
Don't spend too much on the cable, digital signals aren't affected by cable quality like analogue signals are. I've never spent more that £10 on a DVI/HDMI cable and I've never had any problems at all. £80 gold plated cables are just a con intended to extract as much money as possible out of people who don't know the difference.
Re: Can it run a 40" Sony LCD?
Cheers, been a great help, I see where you come from with the cable quality, I'll stick to middle of the road, many thanks...Whatever your religion, may you have a nice time over the Christmas period.:)
Re: Can it run a 40" Sony LCD?
ummm AFAIK there is no such thing as DVI-P only types are dvi-d, dvi-i, dvi-a and dual link dvi-d and dvi-d
