HTPC + Office PC build

How does this spec sound?

Antec NSK2480
AMD 4850e
Scythe Mini Ninja
2GB Corsair DDR2 800
Gigabyte 780G
Vista Home Premium 32 Bit
Office 2007 Home Edition
WD 1TB Green Power
LG H20L Blu-ray DVD
Hauppage Nova 500 DVB-T Twin Tuner
MCE Remote
Wireless keyboard/mouse

Will be connecting it to a 32" LCD via HDMI(720p doesn't do 1080p) will probably just use the TV speakers for now.

Looking at just over £500 at the moment

My Samsung F1 1TB is quieter than a WD640AAKS (dunno about the 1TB version), not saying the WD is loud, but I get absolutley no discernable sound from the Samsung.

Re: HTPC + Office PC build

Is the 4850e the graphics card?
Unless you're intending on playing hardcore games a cheaper card would do you just as well (rather than the 4850). Something like the 3450/4670/3850 should be available for around £50 and have great multimedia capabilities.

Re: HTPC + Office PC build

The 4850e is the cpu, it's one of the low power 45w processors. It's a nightmare using the search function on retail websites as it brings up all the graphics cards too I have to add the 'e' - will be using the 780g integrated graphics

Re: HTPC + Office PC build

Green power hard drives are pretty much as quiet as they get as they only spin at 5400rpm which hit's performance but saves on power and noise.

Perfect build though, I wouldn't change a thing except spraying the front of the case black

Re: HTPC + Office PC build

in that case what graphics card are you going to get, there are some decent ones for htpc available for < £40 (ATI 3450) comes to mind
it should have audio pass through anduse a dvi-hdmi adapter to allow connection directly to you HD TV

That 4850e is really misleading, calling their processors the same name as their graphic cards lol.

Re: HTPC + Office PC build

A nice and cheap 2 in 1 Wireless Keyboard/Mouse for a HTPC build would be Logitech's Mediaboard. Although it is designed for the PS3, it works well with PC's. Alternatively, the diNovo Edge would be worth considering if you're willing to pay the price for pure class.
