Websurfer £130 or 2nd Hand Thinkpad?

    Lo dudes

Sair and I want something to surf on in the living room.

    Two things seem to appeal
    with Linux at £133

    or from Bigpockets
for £150 a second hand Thinkpad
    http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product....D-ROM+-+XP+Pro

This is just for surfing (away from the PC room)

with your kid about i would choose the thinkpad. very rugged and cheap to fix if owt goes wrong but then im biased towards thinkpads.

Re: Websurfer £130 or 2nd Hand Thinkpad?

TBH 7 inches just isn't enough (*snigger*)

    @ 800 x 480 most websites nowadays don't scale properly...

even HEXUS has a paddy fit at that size and things overlap in different areas (Steve did fix a-hell-of-alot though)

alot of websites just can't scale down that far and you find your self forever scrolling to see things

on most sites, alot of the content scales down nicely but the adverts remain HUGE and take up most of the screen.

so i would go with a decent resolution if you were going to go with a netbook, and avoid the diddy 7" ones, and i'm willing to guess that the Elonex also has the keyboard that is designed for a disfigured hand...

having said that, i'm glad that i got my eeePC... i just wish i had waited for the slightly larger screen versions...

If you can stretch to the bigger netbooks with the 10in screens you'll get a much better experience. The acer aspire we have here is great. My girlfriend loves it as does anyone who's come across it in our house.

My flatmate has an Acer 10" thing, don't remember its name but it's far better than any 7" netbook I've used.

Re: Websurfer £130 or 2nd Hand Thinkpad?

i thought about getting a websufer style thing, but decided against it, and got a small laptop instead; a dell latitude c400. its got no cd drive so is fairly small (for its time) and portable. good enough spec, and looks quite nice too. only problem is the battery is crap, but thats just the way it is when they get old. im sure a new battery can be had for fairly cheap.

with a minimalistic OS install on it its super fast at getting going and the like too.
