Smashed Dell laptop screen
I have had my Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop screen smashed. (long story. Too long.) Any suggestions as to the cheapest/best replacement source? It's an oldish laptop, but I use it as a backup and a kitchen computing/ entertainment centre, and it's become important to me. It's all in good nick apart from the screen, so I see no need to replace it, but Dell are asking 230 quid. I can get a nice replacement machine for that.
I found a company named notebookbitz advertising on eBay who will do a new screen for 89.99 + 25 p&p, therefore 115 at my door, which is not bad, but if someone can do it half Dell price, perhaps there's someone closer to France who can beat that too. However, if anyone can recommend notebookbitz I'll probably go with them.

A quick search give me this.
I doubt you can find the panel any cheaper, the saving will be mainly on the P&P.
It is not too hard to repair the screen yourself.
Or perhaps if you're located in France you just use the French ebay? Price shouldn't vary too much.

Claim on the insurance.
£50 excess and a new machine :)
Re: Smashed Dell laptop screen
Laptop Screens are not cheap, it's almost cheaper to buy a external screen and plug that in instead.
We use upgrade options http://www.upgrade.co.uk/ here at work for our laptop bit, probably not the cheapest going but better than "official" prices and they can get bits Dell don't stock.
(we had a broken surround on one of our laptops, dell said we'd have to replace the whole lid and didn't supply them, upgradeoptions sold us the surround for £12)
Must admit I was considering converting my old hp into a cupboard door media center as the only reason it gets turned on now is to lissen to the radio while I do the washing up.
However it's now replaced by my eee pc and has go into storage.
