    Amd 45nm @> 4ghz stock ! must be a hoax?

    http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquir...eb-core-blimey

obviously the link is from the Inquirer so should be taken with a huge pinch of salt.. there is a thread on Hardforum about it.

    http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1339979

    and original article. http://reviewage.co.uk/content/view/33/1/

i know it must be BS but as an amd fanboy, i hope there is at least some truth to the story.

IF the rumours are true, then this'll definitely shake up the cpu sector. Would be fantastic for competition and hopefully some nice price drops
(To be honest, can't expect less considering the relatively dire situation AMD is in, I think 4ghz is pretty much the next boundary.)

I'm very much scepticle, 4ghz+ at launch seems very unlikely, especially as it's a giant leap from curent gen, but it'd be great if true.
Could do without the curent monopoly on highend x86 cpus.,

I'm not holding out any hope TBH, no matter how much I'd like it to be true, I just can't see it happening.

    Re: Amd 45nm @> 4ghz stock ! must be a hoax?

Sounds like hype and fanboyism to me.

People are still banging on about "what they did in the graphics card market" - which was what? They couldn't make a faster chip so they sandwiched 2 together to make a faster card. nVidia could do the same if they wanted.

Would be great if its true bit statements like "faster then a 5GHz kentsfield" while showing absolutely zero evidence, makes me call BS.

In fact, visiting the site where the information originally came from results in nothing but "Website suspended."

No they brought nvidia prices down due to nailing the midrange market which the bulk of builders look to use where possible.

The reason you can pick up a 260GTX for £165 and a 280GTX for £240.. is ATi.

yep and the cost of any possible 280gtx2 would be £500 i recon (even if it was the fastest ever). DAMIT have got the bang for buck crown easy.

but i know this story is false but, i we can still dream.

Well tbh, its on one PCB so its much better than what nvidia ever did with cards like the 7950 and the 9800GX2, ati did design a good card and it shows but its not to slapped to gether like nvidia does countless times to win. They took back what needed to be taken from nvidia, i got an nvidia card(8800GTS g92) but i hate nvidia as i paid £180 for it and its now discontinued etc etc, and atleast with amd they dont release 20odd cards compared to nvidia .
This will be a good day if its true, could pull one out of the hat like they did with their gpus.

In a way it wouldn't surprise me, with all the hype with i7 AMD seem to be very quiet, I just hope they are working hard in the background to produce something big

Your saying choice is a bad thing?

I am no nVidia/Intel fanboy btw (I've had many ATI cards and AMD CPUs, I just buy what's best at the time - in fact I am eyeing the 4870x2 as my next GPU), just adding some perspective as people seem to be jumping on any reason to hate the "big guys", including things we normally count as "good points".

But I guess if it potentially makes your next purchase cheaper, you can tell yourself whatever you want to justify it.....but to make AMD/ATI out to be the saints of the pc market is tantamount to deluding yourself. They are in the game to make money just like nVidia/Intel and will screw you out of as much as they possibly can. The FACT their products have been under-performing is the only reason they have dropped their prices, forcing others to follow suit to keep their price/performance ratios around the same points.

People tend to forget when AMD CPUs cost more then Intels (funnily enough when AMD had the performance advantage!)

Temps aren't an issue. There are as many NVIDIA cards overheating as ATI ones. The core says core says 85c, but what's that comparing to? How do you know the NVIDIA and ATI temp monitors are in comparable places on the die? There are very few cards crashing due to the temperatures (as in no more than any other card of any other generation), so where is the problem?

Power draw, as I remember, is in the right place compared to the NVIDIA cards. The HD4850 draws the same as the 9800GTX+ and is less than the GTX260. The HD4870 draws less than the GTX260 and far less than the GTX280.

I think he was referring to idle power, not load?

4Gigz don't mean that much....how much work it can do at 4Gighz is the issue.
    Compare a P4 at 3Gighz and then a core2 architecture chip at 3Gighz...

Would be great if its true, but I'll remain sceptical until the big guys get their hands on it
