well I guess the cas5 wont hurt me!
2x2gb it is!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Even tho XP 32 only sees 3.5GB of 4GB worth of RAM (due to the gfx card eating it up) it is well worth it, especially when prices are so low - Windows feels much snappier and alt tabbing out of games is instant, loading maps games is much quicker too.
Would agree with what some have said above tho, get a 2x2GB kit (at sub £40 it's a steal) and give the 2x1GB to a friend/family member Also for OCing purposes only filling 2 of the 4 memory slots puts less strain on the memory controller allowing higher clocks/greater stability.
Just a quick side Q: Is there a possibility of running RAM thats rated @ 5-5-5-18 at 4-4-4-12? (with a higher voltage, maybe)
Thanks

If I were you, I would go for this RAM, http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143844
Great value, and with cas4, but also, due to the micron D9 ICs, very overclockable,

Thats how good they are, (and as you can see, im looking to buy atleast one set, )
Just me...................
Just doit.
I run XP - Vista on a dual boot with 2GB.
As with every general succession of MS OS Software it wants to eat more memory and do things slower although apparently faster?? Efficient PSU? what about an efficient OS!!
You know Vista wants the magic 4GB.
However, doesn't matter what you do, every time you boot to vista, you'll be wondering just why it takes an aeon to load compared to XP. I know I do!!
So there it is, you can give it 4GB, buy you'll still be pissed that it take ages for vista to boot compared to XP. So why bother?? If you want to do it quickly just boot to XP, if you want to do it looking nice boot to vista.
Already bought corsair xms2 4gb cas5
