    Urgent (New system advice)

Thinking of building myself a new i7 system for over the festive period, was just wondering what in your opinion is the best 24 inch flat screen lcd/tft for games. And what one of the following would offer the best performance 2 nvidia 260 (216 cores) in sli or an ati 4780 x2.

    regards infin

well for 24" gaming you don't need either tbh.

Crossfire HD4850's or even HD4830's. A single GTX260, HD4870 or if you are feeling flush GTX280.

No need to go any more crazy than that.

As for the screen, it depends what is more important I suppose. If it's just gaming then I'm sure a TN panel of some description will suit.

I'd want something along the lines of a Dell 2408WFP due to all it's wonderful inputs, viewing angles and colour reproduction.

Oh and I wouldn't buy that i7 system anyway...

Tide yourself over with a cheap motherboard (Abit IP-35 dark raider is back with a vengance at £65) an E5200 pentium dual core and a couple of GB's of PC6400 until the prices settle down. Plenty enough for gaming and anything else really, it will overclock to over 3.0Ghz anyway.

    Re: Urgent (New system advice)

Well I would buy the dell as I have a good history with their upper range monitors. I'm sure the benq is good too.

Both have good warranties etc.. The dell has display port which isn't particularly important now but might be later on...

    Re: Urgent (New system advice)

Having a 2408WFP, I'd buy the Benq personally. The Dell still suffers from severe input lag (which isn't particularly noticable to be honest, but is frustrating all the same given how much it costs) and has an overly warm tone in my opinion, even when adjusted.

It's a very, very good monitor, and I'd buy another quite readily, but if you can get the Benq for a similar price, I'd probably head that way.

    Re: Urgent (New system advice)

My university lecturer has the BenQ and it's a very, very nice display. Hell if he picked it, it would have to be.

Pretty sure you can pick it up for cheaper than the Dell too.

EDIT: I second Mike's advice on graphics cards too, a single HD4870 / GTX260 would be more than powerful enough.
