Starting to spec. up a new PC for a friend; he doesn't want anything flashy - mainly office stuff.

Looked at the Antec NSK4000-EU; the pics. show only front and rear, but Antec's details show that it has holes in the side - don't want those!

The Gigabyte GZ-X1-V2 looks OK, but does any one know if it has holes in the side panel? The pic. doesn't show any, but...

It's pretty much an intel (and perhaps amd) requirement to have holes in the side for the CPU cooler to pull air in.

Some might not but a lot do.

Things like the like Akasa Eclipse and Antec P182 don't though.. So I might be wrong lol

What do you mean holes in the side panel? Don't really understand what you mean. Like behind the motherboard tray, for cable tidying? Or on the other side panel, like a window?

Yep, they're the beasties that I don't want or need - planning a system that'll idle at about 40-45W input, similar to the one that I built about 18 months ago.

First block: Mobo is overdue since 30th. August! Not a vital component, though.

You may want to look at the NZxt hush, that has no side vents, although it does have a blue led fan which may not be liked (always swap it for a non led fan)

How much are we spending on this case? Do I need to reign in my thinking a bit I can think of the perfect small case with no holes on the sides but guessing it will be ~£90 when released Silverstone SG04 (not the H version with the handle) http://www.silverstonetek.com/produc...=SG04&area=usa

If that is perhaps just a touch on the expensive side the Antec Solo, Sonata Designer, Sonata 550 plus and Sonata III all have no side vents (and are good value including those with the PSUs they are decent PSU's by the way no need to replace them) and the Lian-Li PC60F, PC8, PCA05, PCA06 and PCA09 all less than £80 (except the Antec's with PSU's)

Yes, the Solo is lovely, but I'm very limited on price (but I'll not cut back on the PSU).

Just get the NSK, doesn't really matter that much if it's got holes does it? Or buy a barebones asus, they look very officey.

I can't understand this - the pic. on Scan's site doesn't seem to show vents (although black is the worst 'colour') Just got the manual - 3MB for 1 page B&W! Anyway, the spec. on G's site mentions the vent.

The 'flashy' case is er, flashy; the Lancool looks good but too dear.

But yeah as we both said those Earthwatts PSUs are good quality definitely worth considering the cases which include them they make for very good value.

Why does it matter if there are vents?

Not needed and lets out noise. To me, looks ugly. The chap who wants the PC is a forensic scientist, so he doesn't like anything flashy and wazocky.
