    Which scanner? Help please!

    Hi guys,

My dad wants to convert all his documents into a digital format for easier storage. He wants to do this by way of scanning the documents. However we dont have a scanner and so hes asked me to find the best one for his needs.

So I thought that perhaps someone here might be able to help, as I know nothing about scanners!

His requirements are pretty basic - the scanner should be good at scanning, and if it also happens to be a printer combo then he would like that also. He is even considering the scanners that cost ~£300.

If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations I would be very grateful.

    Thanks!

    HP Scanjet 5590.

I use one specifically for document scanning. The ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) means I can stack a pile of docs (invoices, etc) and scan the whole lot (to PDF in my case) unattended. If your dad wants to scan large numbers of single-sheet documents, then I can't recommend something with an ADF highly enough. It saves me a huge amount of time and faffing about.

I don't know if that's still a current model, but it was about a year ago.

    Re: Which scanner? Help please!

With all the combos out there its sometimes easy to forget the point of the purchase - to scan!

Thanks Saracen that ADF sounds like it will be a huge time saver, I'll check out that scanner!

Can I ask though does the ADF work well or can paper still become jammed and require someone to be there and reload it? Or does it usually work fine?

I suppose like any ADF or sheet-feeder, it has it's moments, but most of the time, it works for me.
