which case and PSU?

i've decided that i want a new case and PSU for my PC.. i often use it to watch iPlayer and DVDs/BruRay movies on, and i want it to be near silent.. and i've noticed that my PSU is quite loud compared to the rest of the fans in my case.

i also want a smaller case so i can sit it under my desk (my Coolermaster Stacker 831 is too big to fit under my desk )

i was looking at the Hiper 580w
and the Antec 300

i would have 2x Sharkoon golf ball fans in the front of this aswell, from my old case.

would this PSU and case be very quiet considering it'd be sat under my desk now aswell.

i've heard a lot of good stuff about the Hiper PSUs, but are they actually any good?

i've already promised my brother he can buy my PSU and case for 70 quid, so it'll only cost a total of 20 quid for the whole lot..

any better alternatives would be appreciated
and around the same sort of price range would be good

From who and what were they on?

They're ****!

You aren't going to get any noticably quieter than that corsair.. it's perhaps the 3rd best fan cooled PSU out there next to the Be Quiet Dark powers and Enermax Modu82+ but none of them are noticably different.

Coolermaster CM-690 is on scan today only for £55, very nice, but your case with less or slower fans must but quiet enough..

And £70 for you case and PSU is a bloomin bargain.. even if he is family lol

Re: which case and PSU?

my Corsair PSU is very loud compared to my dad's Hiper. he has the 580w Hiper and hasn't had any problems and it's also much quieter than my PSU.

what about the Antec 300 though? is it a good case for 40 quid?

Very, extremely good value for money, and thats weird and ive heard quite a few people having stability issues with 580w hiper psu's how accurate that is i dunno.

The first Hipers were ok (although unreliable). The recent ones are crap, to be blunt

And the bit about them blowing up.. a bit.

Email corsair (or scan, hopefully you got it there), if your PSU is loud.. it's either busted or you are really eating the power.

well i've got a 620w Corsair and apparently they can provide more than 800w or something stupid like that.
<------ would the system over there be eating more than 620w worth of energy?

Re: which case and PSU?

The fan ramps up after about 300W from memory (common to most if not all PSU's really).

Oh wait.. 2x HD4850's.. starting to make sense

How about toning down the overclocking?

The hiper won't do any better.. and will probably blow up.

Is it always noisey or just when loaded? I still think there is something wrong with that PSU. Is it bad with just one HD4850?

Re: which case and PSU?

Well, according to my limited research, under 100% load the fan reaches around 35 db on the corsair 620w.

Re: which case and PSU?

If you do replace your PSU i may be interested in the 620 if you sell it . Corsair are very good AFAIK and really with high overclocks with crossfire could be pushing it.

Re: which case and PSU?

bought hiper and found them pretty noisy and the pc occassionally jittered ... bought a 550w corsair and in addition to being now rock stable its now super quiet
