I found a new CPU stress test tool, IntelBurnTest

Some of you might have seen this before, but it makes CPU a fair bit hotter than prime/orthos... Its based on Intel's Linpack...

This will get your CPU hotter than its ever been before!

For comparison, prime small fft gets the cores to 57-59C!!!

EDIT: forgot to mention. For stability testing you need to run multiple trials (5 should be sufficient) and all the residual values should be the same.

Yeh 12C hotter. Its a much better stability tool than prime/orthos. I would guess that 1 hour of running this is equivalent of many hours of running prime/orthos in stableness. Give it a go matty, would be interesting to see some more results...

whenever i run it, i set it to run at stress type 3, 100 times, and it'll stress the CPU then have a short break, then stress again..

that's with stock voltage after about 3 minutes, it stresses the CPU a hell of a lot more than Orthos or Prime!

Its supposed to do that. It checks some heavy computational maths stuff, multiple times with a pause between each run. The final number it computes should be the same every time. Don't do it 100 times!!! That will take ages to finish. 5-10 is sufficient.

it seems to do it much much more often if you give it less memory to play with.. so the more memory you let it have, the better

ok, how long does it take to do 5 tests?

sitting at between 60 and 64degC per core right now after about 5 min

Not sure, my guess would be 30 to 45 mins. I left the room when I ran it... came back later and it was done...

Matty: More memory is better for testing the whole system. Less memory focuses the test more on the CPU.

well thats been about 10min now, and it isn't going past 65degC on any core

not bad if you ask me.

*edit*: Normal operating temperature is about 40degC for me.

prime sticks to 100%, i think it might be to do with hyperthreading..

Yeh switch hyper treading off and try... or manually assign it to 4 physical cores and not just 4 logical cores...
