I want to upgrade my CPU so that I can run CFD software more quickly. Are there any potential pitfalls - for example would I need to reinstall the OS, drivers e.t.c.? Or is it just a case of plug it in and go? All help gratefully received!

Usually just plug in and go :) Though there have been a couple of occasions when I've upgraded the cpu that the drivers on XP failed to load on bootup, so had to reinstall the OS.
What mobo are you using?
It should be in 'mysystem' - its an abit IP35 - the 'darkraider' if I remember correctly.
You're upgrading from a C2D to another C2D? Should be plugin and go. Going from single core to multicore requires a bit more faffing.
Double check that your motherboard definately supports your new CPU, depending on what you're upgrading to you might need a BIOS update before you swap them over.
I want to go to a c2d quad from a c2d dual, so I guess this should be ok. What I was worried about was having to re-install windows and having to set everything up again but by your responses, I think this should be fine. Thanks guys!
