Re: Mid Range Rig, need advice on some components
Is there a reason why you don't want to have a intel CPU as at the moment they give the best value for money.
Also what is this rig going to be used for. Gaming etc
Re: Mid Range Rig, need advice on some components
The rig isn't for me, and I'm actually having difficulty finding out exactly what it will be used for (long story) but from what I gather it's going to be used as a home server, but will also be used for standard home tasks such as office apps, perhaps watching some videos, Internet etc.
I've gone with AMD over Intel because they seem to be cheaper. I hear Intel processors considerably out perform AMD these days but it's not my belief that the extra power would be noticed, or even required. Plus I've been using AMD for years and have always been pleased with them so I guess I have something of a brand loyalty thing going on!
Re: Mid Range Rig, need advice on some components
Looks fine except for the graphics card, a 4850/4830 would be better value with better performance.
Intel is something to consider. E7300 should beat that processor is most apps. Any same price motherboard P45/43 should do the trick.

My thoughts exactly, the 48's are better value at the moment aren't they? also the intels are great overclockers, even for OC'ing virgins (I speak from experience). So you end up with more bang for buck with very little fiddling or risk.
Also have a look at the Corsair HX modular PSUs, the 520W would be adequate and they are nice and tidy :)
Re: Mid Range Rig, need advice on some components
I think that the AMD choice is fine, as it will provide adequate power, no hassle or anything, and, they do perform, maybe not as well as intels curernt line up, but they are more than what is needed by the sounds of it, and, if the client does not want to have to upgrade for a while, the quad core maybe usefull....
However, I would agree on the GPU front, I just build a computer for around the same amount of money, (with out screen), and I used the 4850, great performance for the price......
And, on the PSU front, I got the 620HX for the computer, overkill looking back, but oh well...., thety are great, very high quality, and a good price, as well as modular, helps improve the look and airflow of the computer....
Just me........

Re: Mid Range Rig, need advice on some components
You haven't mentioned it, unless you've said you don't need up else where and i haven't seen it, is an os? :)
Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM would be best but this would add an extra £87.27 (scan)
Also you don't have a DVD drive :)
Re: Mid Range Rig, need advice on some components
Thanks Mike, will look into these.
handscombmp: Yeah it will be Vista Home Premium 64bit and an internal DVD drive... didn't mention them because they're generic items. Thanks for the concern though =)
