I'd get the corsair 520W HX, I run one and it's very nice, efficient, quiet and built very well. Also if you buy it from scan you get a 5 year warranty straight to them which is a nice touch

not much really, a HX520w will easily power your rig and more

and because power requirements are really going up anymore.... a PSU will practically be fine until it dies... so you might aswell get a decent one

Vx has slightly higher performance in terms of voltage regulation (but nothing that a normal user would notice or worry about) and is a bit cheaper - as it is non modular. Modular gioves ease of installation and cuts down on the tangle of unused connectors insise the case.

Hmm you sure about the VX? I heard they were slightly worse than the HX series. As for choice, you'd want something about 500w~ to give you play for installing new parts. If you wanted to go for the bare minimum I'd say about 400w for that system. Choices:

I would have also recommended the Seasonic M12 430W but it's only &#163;3 less than the M12 500w version so there is little point considering that one.

There were some others to note, stuff like NorthQ / Coolermaster / Be Quiet! but their prices are rather high and higher than Enermax and Seasonic who are the two best PSU makers around today (arguably) so I'd rather just say stick to what's above.

All of the above in both categories are quality power supplies. I've bolded the ones I would get, but it really depends on how much you want to spend. Such as the VX450W would easily power your system but you may wish to spend a bit more money and get something a little higher in wattage. The Enermax are kinda highly priced and probably a little higher than I'd like but they are astounding power supplies, I replaced my HX520W with a Enermax Modu82+ 625w and it's stunning.

I'm sure the review I read said a little better - however it is not a question of slightly worse - perhaps "not quite as good" - and unless you are testing them in a test lab - the difference would be undetectable and not worth losing sleep over.

You could argue that having plugs in a modular system introduces contact resistance - which would degrade regulation - and in theory provide a point of failure - but again that isn't anything to lose sleep over.

All the PSUs you quote look OK (you might include FSP) and they are probably all made by the same OEM (to the suppliers spec) and badge labelled accordingly. FSP are one of the bigger OEM mfrs - I think Seasonic are another - but I may be mistaken.

I have an HX 520 - its good - and as it is powering a relatively simple system, with view to upgrading later, I found the modular aspect useful - otherwise I would have gone for the VX.
