Anything better than the MSI Wind?
I'm after a small laptop, predominately for word processing and storing photos while i'm away from my main rig snapping away. Maybe play a little warcraft 3 online, i'm also after a long battery life since I need to use it for mapping my cars ecu with vems technology.
Nothing too demanding, so is there anything else better for what I need it for?
The eeepc screens seem a bit too small at 8.9" and it doesn't have a full sized keyboard.

Samsung NC10, look no further :)
Re: Anything better than the MSI Wind?
what makes it a better choice mike?
Re: Anything better than the MSI Wind?
The MSI wind U100 comes with an 80gb hd and 3 cell battery
The samsung NC10 comes with 160gb hd and a 6cell battery (lasts longer)
On top of that it's said to have one of the best lcd pannels of any current netbook, a very good keyboard and a slightly higher build quality than the wind
The Wifi although not n but the slightly older g is still supposed to be very good, looks like they got a very good aerial in there.
There is a better version of the wind that comes with a 160gb hd and 6 cell battery but it comes with a higher price tag.
All told the nc10 is probably the best 10" farme&screen netbook out atm

Re: Anything better than the MSI Wind?
I just got my samsung nc10 last night it came with 2gb memory in it instead of the 1 for £304 all in, absolute bargain. I have used the asus, msi, hp and advent at work and the samsung is a better machine to work on. Biggest and best keyboard by far, the trackpad takes a little getting used to as its almost flush with the case and a tad smaller than the rest but its the best overall package I have used to date.
As said the screen is great for the 1024x600 range just pipped by the HP Mininote screen which can do 1280x900 but you lose out on the rest of the hardware which is well below bar for the price hp want for it.

That's the place I got it from, arrived within 24 hours and been using it ever since. Prices seem to have risen a little bit but they are cheaper with the 2gb memory upgrade than half the high street shops with the standard nc 10
Re: Anything better than the MSI Wind?
+1 for the samsung, simply the best netbook out there due to its quality build and decent performance/battery life

Re: Anything better than the MSI Wind?
Another vote for the NC10. I've tried using a Wind too, but the keyboard layout seems better on the NC10 and the increased battery and HDD space is much better value for money.

i have the nc10 and the lenovo s10e
even tho the s10 only has 3 cell battery and 1024 x 576 (16:9) screen, i like it better than the nc10 which is a bit too big, and does not have an express 34 slot that can house a ssd as a second drive. im planning on 32gb 100mb data trans rate ssd for windows and 160gb for my files. should be sweeet. :)
Re: Anything better than the MSI Wind?
Didn't know the lenovo had that.
I think I will be getting the samsung anyway, although I hear you get 4 hours from the lenovo which is enough..
Whats the keyboard like?

id say the sammy wins on the keyboard, the lenovo wins on the track pad. all in all its a tough call.
one down side of the lenovo is no setup disk, xp backup is on a hidden partition. dont get me wrong the nc10 is a sweet netbook. in the end it came down to the one i like the look of most!
another draw back of the s10e is that 800 x 600 games wont run. i installed mounted GTA san andreas on the HD and when i tried to run i got an error msg saying 800 x 600 not detected and could'nt load it. to solve the prob i had to load it using a vga lead to a second monitor the change the res to 1024 x 574. runs ok now, supprisingly good for a crappy on-board graphics designed to be low power. the s10e only has 2 usb as well ( a trade of for the 34 express slot)
i havent found a way to change the Vram shared memory in the BIOS on either netbook yet. but i think the gma950 can use upto 256mb.
Re: Anything better than the MSI Wind?
Lol hadn't really thought about gaming on them. Heard they can do the basics though which is nice :)

I seem to recall MSI's chief exec saying indirectly that MSI make the NC10 for Samsung.... so basically MSI have the market except for the Eee.

But Samsung make the screens for MSI in the first place? ;)
