Should I buy these 2nd hand Raptors?
Been offered two Raptors, one 150GB and one 74GB, for £90 posted... both have around 18 months useage. Apparently no whines, clicks or bad sectors on either.
I was thinking of using one as an OS drive and one as a scratch drive for Photoshop, will this be worth it over my current partitioned 6400AAKS?
Or should I save my £90?
Cheers :rockon2:
Re: Should I buy these 2nd hand Raptors?
my opinion is avoid 2nd hand drives in their entirety. The first one (and last one) I bought involved 3 returns to sleaze gate over a 12 month period as they kept sending repaired drives which were equally as butchered as the original i had idiotically procured.
Re: Should I buy these 2nd hand Raptors?
I wouldn't bother. Velociraptors and ssds are the ones to get now. These are pretty crap in comparison.
Re: Should I buy these 2nd hand Raptors?
While I'm sure the drives are probably fine, given the raptors are pretty solid beasts from what I have read, it doesn't seem worth it.
They will probably help but I would just put the money into a velociraptor if you want the extra speed.

Coolbies... it's what I thought, but just wanted to confirm with the esteemed members of the forum.
I shall save my £90 for now :)
cheers

£90 is a good price though....
Re: Should I buy these 2nd hand Raptors?
I paid about £70 for a secondhand RaptorX about 12 months ago. So thats not a bad price.

I think they're still for sale if you want them... He's actually selling them seperately, £60 for the 150GB and £40 for the 74GB.
Maybe I should snap up the 150GB one... :juggle:

Do you reckon it'd make a noticeable difference?

To put it in perspective, for a tad over £70 you can get a brand new 1TB Samsung F1 which isn't far off the Raptor 150 in performance...
I have a Raptor 150 and the Samsung F1, but I got the Raptor several years ago. A lot of "regular" HDD's have court up in performance now.
