    Bugger?

    Hi guys,

just had the q9650 arrive today, but when i put it my ip-35e im getting nothing at all. My q6600 gets hot when i fire it up for a second, but this one doesnt at all so im praying its not a DOA.

something ive noticed is that the middle pins are different which is leading me to think nasty things...

    here is the q6600:

(on the right in this pic)

    and here is the q9650:

Have i made a cock up? I thought lga 775 was all the same...

i also thought that the q9650 were all 45nm, but this looks now thinner than the q6600? Were there 65nm q9650's?

    Re: Bugger?

The things in the middle aren't contacts, so it doesn't matter that they're different. They're just the gubbins from the chip itself.

    Re: Bugger?

As everyone has said you probably need to update your motherboards bios to support the new model of quad core chips.

    Re: Bugger?

the flash to the latest version has been done still dead in the water though. Ive done a bit of reading, looks like abit are going tdown the pan and stopping making mobos completely. The IP35 series seem not to be compatible with the new generation of quads, so im going to have to put this baby up for sale. Booo abit! terrible.
