e6600 overclocked

Hello,

I have decided to follow the guide above and to give my PC a boost . I went to the shop bought Arctic Cooling for my PCU. I have got performance RAM from Corsair PC6400 @ 800 mhz(CM2X1024-6400C4D). So I increased FSB a bit, saved, restarted - 2.8 Ghz ! Yeah! Then a bit again, god my hands were shaking ! 3240 Mhz ! Hurrah! Under stress temp is 45 C for both cores (good or bad?) I'm happy with this speed. Now i need to set up RAM speed to 800 mhz, RAM voltage to 2.10 (as manufacturer said) and timings to 4-4-4-12. My MB is Asus P5K. Can I just change those settings (leaving FSB alone) or i have to increase FSB to 399 to get 800 mhz for RAM? Sorry, you guys answered to this question million times but I got excited and want some tuition what to do next. Thx in advance.

Tried with intel burn test? Look for anything less than 60C is what i normally do, keep volts near stock as possible and your good togo . Id say those are VERY good temps, i get 50C with burn test @ 3.6ghz.

What voltage are you giving the CPU mate? Is it on auto in BIOS? Temps do sound good.

You would have to up the FSB to get your RAM to run at DDR800.... or you could set the timings to 5-5-5-15 and try a different divider..... you may have the option of DDR900 if the RAM will do it....

My E6600 with the same cooler runs those sorts of temps (about 48-49) in this weather but clocked at 3.4GHz

I tried FSB 400 and Vista didn't load. I discovered that if i set FSB to 333 i can get right divider (800mhz). But that leaves me with mere 3.0 Ghz. I didn't want to push RAM to higher frequencies. ATM my OC is as it says above. I ran Orthos for 4 hours and no errors. Played red alert 3 on max details in 1680x1050 no crash. Ram is set to 4-4-4-10 @ 720 mhz. Can i go over 800 mhz if it's manufactured to 800? I mean those RAM sticks are equipped with large heatsinks for a reason right?

I'm not sure where to change cpu voltage in BIOS so i set everything to auto apart RAM Voltage - 2.10 and northbridge voltage - 1.40.

If your overclocking the ram then as long as you dont put to much volts through then youll be fine. If its a light overclock id say keep to stock volts and perhaps try lower timings instead of speed.

Your right. Let's say that my mobo don't like when i push her to 370 FSB. So something between stable FSB 360 and 370 will do. Is it better to push them to 4-4-4-8 or 3-3-3-10 ? Thanks for some advice. Performance now is a bit better and for free!

If your RAM can do 3-3-3-10 then go for it, but I'd be surprised!

I wouldn't worry about the RAM speed too much... increasing the CPU clock speed will give you far greater performance gains.

I'll try 4-4-4-8 first. If that would be stable. I'll go 3-4-4-8 and so on to the point where computer will say: no! I'll post the results this evening. I wouldn't say before that OC is fun, now i'm into it completely. I saved quite a bit cash for new PC so my current one is kind of practice run before real deal, i'll never let my equipment run on stock settings again

If meddling with RAM wont give more performance, i'll go for higher FSB and maybe increase Vcore. ATM my v core is something between 1.408 and 1.416 when idle, and drops to 1.344 - 1.366 under heavy load. Temp under heavy load is 55C on CPU0 and 50C on CPU1. A bit asymetric. I'll go 369 fsb to give it more speed, and that's that i reckon.
