Question 3XS Systems From SCAN - Good Value?

Hi guys, I'm looking at the 3XS systems from SCAN, and wondered if you think its good value? TBH I only ever buy a PC every 4-5 Years or so, IMO its cheaper in the long run to buy big now than it is to buy cheaper or major upgrade every 18 months!!

I was also looking at Dell XPS systems, but with the 3XS you definitely get a bigger bang for bucks!

Anyway let me know what you think, or perhaps give me another option

Re: 3XS Systems From SCAN - Good Value?

I did research them myself, and seriously thought about it, they seem to be a good company but with my new PC overclockers.co.uk beat em in half on the cost and have given good service so far too (installed extras free of charge and free return and send back for another change after there was a miscommunication regarding a sound card) - I have bought a 3008wfp monitor from Scan though, as they beat the price there. I don't think i7 is worth paying double, though according to what I've read it may be something like 15% faster.

Re: 3XS Systems From SCAN - Good Value?

I would probably negotiate the lower 920 i7 chip as it's a hell of a lot cheaper.

Talk to Paul though because although they are a bit more pricey than some you certain get a quality build and service.

If you really do not like building/fixing PCs, then Scan may be very good value due to their customer service.

Most around here would advocate doing it all your self though

Certainly self building at this level can have it's financial benefits

And yeah.. Overclockers.. I try to spend £20 or less at a time and only when I have to lol

Re: 3XS Systems From SCAN - Good Value?

I've never bought anything from overclockers.

And of all the people I know IRL, everyone who has used them has been screwed over. Not a single happy customer. Enough to make me steer very very clear.

Re: 3XS Systems From SCAN - Good Value?

I've mainly used the shop since it was just down the road from uni but I have used them online and since I haven't had to send anything back they have been fine.

Mates have tried.. to send stuff back though and it has been tricky but sorted in the end.

I think that's the second person who's said something along those lines, or it was you before I dunno - what is it with them then? I'm relatively new to PC buying, though have shopped online for ages.

edit: Nm dreaming answered it I guess - I went away from PC while replying.
They're really that bad? Seemed ok on the phone, like I said got stuff returned with NP - and forum looks not full of angry people or whatever but then again I guess they would edit those out if they are so bad

Damnit I'm feeling guilty for not calling you and having a haggle like suggested now Oh well, there's always next PC. I remembered you seemed pretty cool before when I was thinking about buying a white cobra bout 2 years ago (more money than sense/hardware knowledge at that point lol).

Still, no nightmare with OC yet, I'll definitely say if anything happens

I might just do that, I've just looked back and the last PC i brought was in 2003, shortly after the AMD64 was released. I've upgraded once in that time with ram and graphics, also clocked it. Upgrade cost of £220, total cost for 5 years £970..... not bad, and i've been able to play every racing game (GP4, GTR series, RACE, rFactor etc) at good res/quality. iRacing is struggling, so i guess the time has come to buy another PC that will hopefully last another 4-5 years
