    Price check... my PC

    Hypomothetically, any thoughts on how many cashes I could earn by selling on my PC? If not here on HEXUS, then in local classifieds or fleabay? I'm wondering how much extra cash I'd need to raise to buy a shiny(er) new box.

    * Dell 2001FP monitor (20", 1600x1200, S-IPS panel, DVI/VGA/SVideo/Composite)
    * Lian-Li v1100 case (big, heavy, aluminium, quiet)

    * Abit KN8 motherboard (NForce4, Socket 939)
    * Athlon64 X2 3800+ (OR, at buyer option, an Athlon FX single-core. FX-55 I think, I'd need to check)

    Re: Price check... my PC

    In my experience (from trying to sell my own pc on a few occassions) home-builds dont sell too well on eBay. Mine were a fair price compared to the instore prices of equally speced pc and was lower than any others on eBay, but there was only some slight interest and no bids.

    I have come to notice that selling individual parts can be better, numerous times I have been trying to grab some componants cheap and in the end the used componants go for higher than there new price! idiots lol. Some in the pc you quoted you may aswell keep, dvd drive, mouse etc.

    Sorry It really doesnt answer your question. You could gamble it and put a 1p starting price and hope for the best, or pay eBay's stupidly high reserve fees. Tbh ebay+paypal would really eat into the cash generated so local classifieds or here on hexus may be a better idea.

    Problem with that is
    1) I was kinda wanting to go for full-on upgrades - e.g. Blu-Ray drive, wireless mouse, etc - so there's really very little room for keeping bits
    2) If I split it, then the Windows licenses (which have some value) disappear into the licensing ether

    Re: Price check... my PC

    Didn't see this originally, but the main problem is that the case is out of kilter with the rest. You're not going to get value for that case with those components. The monitor is OK, but of course, everyone who's buying new is getting bigger, and the rest of the kit is all 2+ generations old. And people don't want to spend money.

    I'd buy a cheap (bling) case and attempt to sell it locally, and sell the Lian Li, and maybe the Dell separately. Problem is delivery costs, really. I don't actually think splitting up any more is much good, because aside from these two parts there's nothing there that is going to fetch real money.

    Split it for a good price and either give what you can't sell away or keep it for spare parts.

    Re: Price check... my PC

    Another vote for splitting, I've shifted on a couple of old comps that way in the past and have always made considerbly more than what the whole system was worth as a unit. Also a dansite easier to shift stuff that way.

    Bundle the Mobo, CPU and Ram together. The "drop it right in", "all in one upgrade" bundles always used to do well on the bay and probs do ok on hexus too aslong as your sensible on price.

    Case and monitor should do well wherever you sell them as they're quality items. Rest of the bits and bobs, might not be cutting edge, but you'll be surprised. I've gotten £8 for old DVD drives at carboots!!!

    Only issue is your XP licenses, dont think they'd add any value to any component as no one looking at this kinda stuff is likely to be XP'less, may have to write it off as the joys of OEM software.

    Good luck with whatever you do anyway. Lemme know if you do sell seperate as few bits there I might be tempted by, but will pass on the cookie as I'm a tree hugging veggie

    What would you price individual bits up at? I've not spent much time paying attention to the used market lately

    Cheers for that, TAKTAK.

    Looking at it, it seems mehmeh might be right - mobo plus ram plus chip should sell for 60+ on fleabay as a dual-core upgrade bundle. Worth thinking about what to sell where for max exposure, really. And this spare FX55 is worth £lots on ebay

    Oh aye, the FX-55, forgot about that one, if 939 used prices hold their bane through the 'crunch' then ~£90 for a used one, who knows for a new one £200+
