Xeon processors and RAM for sever

Which is better a faster single quad core xeon or 2 lower spec xeons?

    1 x Xeon X5450 or 2x Xeon E5410

Plus which would be more useful in a web sever with 300 odd users 8gb of ram and more processing power or 16gb RAM and Less processing power. This is for pushing and processing images around from a SAN sever.

    Thanks

    Generally speaking, the former.

It depends, if you're pushing less images, but more complex manipulations. Then less RAM, more CPU is better.
