Hello i am looking for a laptop. It will generally be used for web,movies/music & a little bit of gaming (Warcraft III/DOTA)
My options are limited in terms of buying as i live in Pakistan. These are the ones that are available here.
DELL Inspiron 1545 INTEL C2D 2.1GHZ, 2GB, 250GB, DVDRW, 15.6" TB DISPLAY, LAN, WIFI, BT, CAM
COMPAQ PRESARIO CQ61-231TU INTEL C2D 2.2GHZ, 2GB, 250GB, DVDRW, 15.6" LED DISPLAY, HDMI, LAN, WIFI, CAM
HP PROBOOK 4510S INTEL C2D 2.1GHZ ,2GB, 320GB, DVDRW, 15.6" TB DISPLAY, LAN, WIFI, CAM, BT, CARD READER

    Waiting anxiously for a reply.
    Regards

A quick google suggests they all use the Intel GMA4500 and so will not be great for gaming. For all else they will be fine. I guess the deciding factor if not based on looks is whether the extra 100MHz on the CPU or the extra HDD space on the HP lappy is more desirable.

Well Warcraft III is a 7 year old game i think they should be able to run it fine.
Apart from that brand wise which one is better? DELL,COMPAQ or HP?

Re: Advice for a Laptop Budget $600

I would check this website for a list of laptop graphics cards:

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-ATI...0.13883.0.html

The graphics cards are listed in order of increasing performance from the bottom.

I would be careful about Intel GMA4500 as it has terrible driver support for many games.

Re: Advice for a Laptop Budget $600

Out of interest are there are any AMD notebooks available in your pricerange?? If they have HD3200 or Nvidia 8200 or 8300 integrated graphics they will a few times faster than a GMA X4500.

Also since the notebooks are so close together in spec the best thing is to actually look at the notebooks in person TBH. Also look at the warranty you will get with them too.

The HP has a number pad though unlike most notebooks which may prove useful. The Dell 1545 is a bit cheap in finish IMHO and does not seem as durable as some of their other previous budget notebooks.

Re: Advice for a Laptop Budget $600

the HP ProBook 4515s should be in the price range, uses AMD cpu and the M880G Chipset (HD4200)
TuronII ultra is the best one for amd cpu AFAIK with the athlonII just behind it.

However not being in the US hard to give you adviceon what for the best price, I'm running of UK prices here.

The HD4330 would a far better choice to run play games when compared to a GMA4500 IMHO. Image quality should also be better as at times the Intel GMA4500 can have rendering issues in games.
