RMA directly it will be quicker. However why are you positng this in Bargain Hunt?
As David says - it'ld be quicker through Western Digital, and you may get a better one. My RMA with maxtor got me a 60gb replacement for my 40gb :) i had my fingers crosssed for a SATA 80gb, but still 20gb more :)

Sorry about posting in Bargain Hunt............You've answered the question though - RMA to Western Digital!
Well i cant say for sure but last harrdrive i returned to komplett was a dead 120 gig and took 6 days to turnaround with a brandnew drive from komplett themselves....
Recent experiences with HDD's:
Western Digital 120Gb 8Mb cache back to Scan, 2 e-mails; 2 phone-calls, a fax and 16 days later a replacement arrived.
Seagate 40Gb Barracuda RMA'd to Seagate in Holland, 80Gb Barracuda returned in 12 days.
My only hdd RMA experience was when I got an almost-DOA 160gb sata maxtor from tekheads. After about 2 or 3 weeks it just got worse, clicking etc... untill it wouldnt work atall. So I emailed them (they are one of the few companys that acctually check there emails!) and they said to send it to them, they said when it arrives, they will test if its damaged, and then send a shiny new one the same day! Maxtor wouldnt have been any quicker as tekheads took teh replacement from there stock - if it wasnt in stock they would have said send to maxtor.
I think it depends on the shop. Obviosly UK shops are more likely to be quicker, as there nearer, but in my experience OcUK, ebuyer, maybe scan, dabs, and other large shops send straight to manuf as itll be quicker. OcUK are the worst company imo, DONT even bother emailing them, they just ignore it. Phoning is the best way..
Even phoning the main phone number which has a call waiting system, after 10 minute waiting I was told I had the wrong number fro RMA request. Rang the other number and it was engaged. They ignored an email sent 1 month before. Sent two more emails and a letter telling them that i would get Barclaycard to reimburse me if I did not get a reply to my letter. RMA in progress. Sent first email 2nd of January!
megatron which company was that? ocuk i assume :(
