    4 Monitors...

    Hi guys,

I've been using a Dell 24 and a 17inch touch screen on my PC for a while now, and I think the time has come to buy two more monitors( one for each side)

I've already chosen and purchased the monitors - My issue is with choosing a new graphics card.

I'm looking for a cheap PCI card (notice not PCI-e) ,which will be compatible with my ATI HD4870 I already have, and have two D-sub outs.

I asked ATI on their support forum and the asnwer they gave me was...

I understand you would like to have 3 or more displays from your system using 2 or more video adapters. The presence of 2 active video adapters is only supported in a Crossfire setup and this will not result 3 or more displays. The results of multiple active cards in a system is not supported because the outcome is not consistant. We offer a FireMV 2400 card that allows 4 displays. You may find suggestions at www.rage3d.com.
Is there a way of using 2 cards at once, and which ones should I go for?

    Cheers,
    FifthFreedom

    Re: 4 Monitors...

Hmm, have you looked at the Matrox range of PCI cards? They specialise in mutli monitor setups and cards. But they are not cheap by any means, for what you want the cheapest would get u a nvidia 280gtx.

Ideally you would have your main PCI-E gfx card and the matrox running off ur PCI, not sure if this would work, but I do know that if you have more than one PCI-E 8x/16x slot you can do this, working independantly from each other.

Have a look at these, graphics expansion module from matrox. I think they will do what you want, they have, in the past, very good reviews.

    http://shopmatrox.com/europe/product...ID=70&Column=2

I think that it would work with 1 monitorbeing powered from 1 port on the gfx card, with the triplehead2go on the other port, giving you 4.

    Re: 4 Monitors...

They don't use the same driver version but no PCI cards do apparently.

    Will this be an issue?

And FYI there are two problems with multiheads:

    1) They are very expensive
    2) They are not as good in Windows because as far as its concerned, its just one big screen.

That means no separate resoloutions and no maximise buttons.

    Re: 4 Monitors...

I can't speak of driver usage under XP, however in Vista (and I imagine Windows 7) all display adaptors (bus type is irrelevant) must use the same driver.

This was discussed here with additional information here.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.
