Hard drive displaying content slowly

Good evening everyone,

I have 2x 250GB Seagate Barracuda 10s in my Shuttle. One of them I use for windows, the other for media. Recently, the "My Videos" file (which has about 188GB in it) on the media drive appears to be loading very very slowly, especially in Windows Media Centre. I'll click on My Videos, then I'll have to wait about 25 secs before they all appear and I can choose one.

Any ideas why this might be? Would it simply be that it's very full and takes a while to load the thumbnails of everything? Any insight would be appreciated!

How many files? are they all in the same folder?

What happens when you move all but a few into another folder? does that speed it up?

Some simple de-bugging should give you a better idea what's going on.

Yeah, try moving them into differant folders, they are probally taking longer to load due to the sheer quantity

741 files, distributed into 13 different files. reckon that's too many? I'll try swapping a few into another folder, but surely that shouldn't make it take ages to load?
