My ByeBye Standby plug just blew up!

I have a set of byebye standby plugs and the one with our standard lamp just blew skyhigh! The plastic underneath is black and the top half has unclipped from the bottom half. The spark was huge and the bang made my girlfriend run into the room to see what was going on. Its rattling inside so I assume its totally blew itself to bits. What is odd is that it had been in use for a few hours with a low watt energy saving bulb then for no reason BANG!

    Very odd and very dangerous....

Should just plug it in normally. I've not seen a lamp consume power when it's off
Waste of money those things as they consume power themselves. If you can't access the plug then maybe it's worth it.

    Pics!

Must admit I didn't know what a "byebye standby plug" was, so I checked, oh a brand of IR controled power off plugs for thoes to lasy to reach down to the wall switch

That'll teach you for being too lasy to reach over to turn the lamp on and off

But I do agree with moogle, we need pictures!

Or those who try to be green, forgetting that the appliance still uses power as well

and as I said, if you're that keen there's this revolutionary thing called a "switch" which uses no power, just a bit of effort and don't tend to go BANG unless you have some dodgy electrics (your fuses should go before the sockets do)

Only an absolute miniscule amount of power though. They don't even register on my wattmeter. They're especially good when they're used somewhere that's impractical to turn off (outside, sockets behind furniture etc). My dad uses quite a few for xmas decorations. I've used the older branding Domia Lites for quite a few years.

As an aside for Pob255, they're not IR, they're RF. Wouldn't be much point in them if you needed line of sight to make them work.
