Umm you know what I hate about this, bigger screen + larger case + heavier weight + higher price + possible dvd drive = small LAPTOP not a netbook.
What this will mean is low cost small laptops, unlike the current situation where a smaller laptop costs more.
I'd also like to take issue with the complaints in the hexus artical about netbook battery life.
You can see plainly why some do have bad battery life, they go with larger, heavier, more expensive 10" screens and so to bring down the cost and weight they only fit 3cell batteries.
If you took a 15" laptop and put a 3cell battery in it you can bet it'll be cheaper, lighter and have even less battery life.
Yet at the same time put a 6cell battery into a netbook and you get massive life out of it, my asus 901 runs slightly longer than the HP laptops we have at work which have a additional external battery and my 901 is a heck of a lot lighter.
now when that's below the image of the reference board, that hasWhat you're looking at is a Pico-ITX reference platform that makes up the guts of ION. The abilities of GeForce 9400M - the left-hand chip - means that modest 3D gaming and GPU-based help in the decode of high-definition content is a given, and a sensible bunch of outputs should fit most netbooks' needs.
1x sata
1xgigabit ethernet
1x hdmi
1x dvi
1x usb . . . umm only 1 usb? so that's two screens but only 1 keyboard or mouse
ok that ION looks damb cool and has lots of connectors on the front, but I'd want to see inside as I don't see where or how thoes port can be connected to that reference board.
My guess is that the board inside that ION is not the same one.
It's a bit annoying when you have to bite the bullet and buy a netbook when something so much more useful is on it's way
Might fix my old laptop afterall lol
I hope the final price is not too high unlike the VIA Artigo for example!! A version of the Nvidia Ion with a dual core Intel Atom would be fab!! It would be an ideal computer for normal use and very energy efficient too!!
