    Post New Build Help !!!

Hello, I'm looking to build my new system, but i need some help..I'm unsure of two things; what PSU and watts do i need; and what Motherboard will be decent for my gaming PC.

    List as Follows;

    Antec 900

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

    4GB Corsair (2x2GB)

    640GB Western Digital Caviar Black

    512MB EVGA 9800 GTX+

    Samsung Dual layer burner-SATA

    Xigmatek HDT-S1283 CPU Cooler

    Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

    120mm Coolmaster Silent fan

TOTAL: £532.07 including VAT + Shipping

All i need is suggesting for Motherboard and What PSU should i buy and how much watts do i need..

MY budget is preferably £700-750... but if i can get it less than that, it will be great so i can buy Vista Ultimate instead of my XP disk from old pc..

    Thanks Alot

    Re: New Build Help !!!

A biostar P45 either the cheaper £80 or the more expensive £110 will be very good for that system.

The Asus boards offer great feature sets though so the P5Q PRO and -E are worth a look not as good for overclocking though..

DFI's boards and the more expensive Biostar are the extreme overclockers.

For the power supply a 500W PSU will be plenty enough. A Corsair 520W HX or 525W enermax modu82+ will be good. If you don't need a modular PSU then the 650W TX corsair ot 525W Pro82+ will be fine.

Just some notes on your build.

The E8400 is a bit of a waste when the E5200 pentium dual will offer the same gaming performance for £80ish less.

The caviar black is lovely but the 16mb version (caviar blue or AAKS) is fantastic and the difference should be negligable.

The coolermaster CM-690 is £50 on scan today only. The 900 is nice but the CM-690 does a great job of cooling, and the drive and cable management is a lot better.

That's what I would change anyway. And the new sony Blu Ray drive is about £57 which might be a nice touch with the savings.

What monitor size/resolution will you be running on this?

    if it's only a 17" or 19" then consider downgradeing the graphics card to a 9800gt 512mb
if 20" or more then the 9800gtx+ is a good option, however also look at the ati 4850

Wow scan seems to be out of stock on a heck of a lot of graphics cards.

On the CM690, it's a very nice case, shame the version with the side window is slightly better, but you cannot seem to get hold of them now
they do sell the windowed side panel seperately, the advantage it has is a far better mesh/vent for the side panel fan.

    although again not in stock

You will want to consider getting a couple of 120mm or 140mm fans to put in the top
Depends if you want glowy led fans or not but these should be very good

    Re: New Build Help !!!

The striker series is good, but a bit OTT with the price, imo if you are looking at that sort of money, i would go straight out with i7 (but thats me ). If you are going core2, I would go with what staffsmike suggested. The more expensive biostar boards overclock very well.

Also another thing about the striker is the nforce chipset. Produces alot of heat and doesnt overclock as well as the intel chipsets, so the only reason I would go for nforce if running core2, is SLi.
