    Speakers

OK, as I've mentioned in another thread, I intend to order a creative X-fi Titanium in the near future (Please can we not have a creative bashing contest in this thread...), and I want to get a set of high-end speakers to go with them. I lack to space for surround sound, so they will have to be stereo or 2.1. Depending on how much I can persuade my parents to let me spend, my list has been narrowed down to 4 possibilities:

    ~£90
    Logitech Z-2300s
    Creative T40s

    ~£60
    Logitech Z-4
    Creative T20s

I am a little wary of the Creative stereo sets, since some reviews have commented on their lack of bass, so would I be better off going for the logitechs in each price bracket, or are there any better options (from Scan, amazon or ebuyer)?
I would consider myself a marginal audiophile, as I'm a keen classical and jazz musician and poor quality music drives me insane- I'm currently using onboard sund and a set of 10-year old Boston Acoustics Micromedias as a stop gap, and they just don't cut it with a lot of music. I will be using the speakers for gaming (Flight sims and FPS in particular) as well as an extremely eclectic mix of music, consisting of jazz, rock and classical. Any suggestions?

    Re: Speakers

The bass for the creatives (T20's) is warm and clear and suprising give the lack of a sub. I really like them. Two inputs is nice and the fact they are stand alone rather than USB makes them better than the logitech alternative which is the Z10's
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/119594

The logitechs are the better speakers though as far as reviews go but given how much I like the creatives with a bit of tweeking the logitechs must be outstanding.

If you have the room for a 2.1 system though that will make life a lot eaiser in terms of getting a flexable sound I like the idea if the THX certified Logitechs but that is quite a lot of money so you need to make sure that £90 is what you are really willing to spend.

    Re: Speakers

I'm actually starting to feel a little unsure about the Z-2300s actually, since several reviews comment that the bass is a little overpowering; does anyone have any views on this?

    Re: Speakers

I've had the logitech Z-2300's since last christmas. And at the mid level setting the Bass is pretty much perfect. I'm yet to experience any overpowering or underwhemling bass at this setting.

They really are some of the best speakers I've had. Had a pair of yamaha ones back in the day and before these Logitechs a set of the 4.1 Altec lansing THX ones. These are the best so far.

So really I can't recomend them enough... Just need to get a better soundcard

    Re: Speakers

I often listen to music at low levels due to neighbours/room-mates.
I've been looking at the z2300 but it seems the bass can be a bit much at low volumes.
I'd want my speakers to be perfect if I'm paying ~ £90 for them!

    Re: Speakers

I'd have to disagree with that, i'm yet to have a nyone say anything about the bass from the Z-2300's, The bass is always spot on even at low levels unless of course you turn it to max...

Isn't this kind of quality meant to be part of the whole THX certification process? (I'm not sure about this)

I have mine set to mid which is perfect for a late night viewing of the simpsons, playing games, Drum'n'bass... as far as my experience goes these are the best alround speakers I've ever had...

    Re: Speakers

I can heartily recommend the AEGO M

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=SP-001-AE

No joke, these are really, really good. In my opinion, pc speakers don't get much better.

Recently however, my PC with Soundstorm died on me so I had these hooked up to a normal pc with Realtek onboard sound. The speakers just didn't seem alive.

So, it depends really, if you are fussy with sound and have a good sound card, then buy the AEGO M without a second thought.

If you rely on onboard sound without realising what you're missing, then just choose a fancy set that goes with the decor of your room.

    Re: Speakers

The AEGO M also won a lot of awards... some listed here:

    http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/p...roduct_ID/2543

    edit:

At low levels the sound on these are very well balanced and you won't find the bass flooding the treble.

    Re: Speakers

Thanks for the suggestion, but £90 is my absolute top budget, and I'd prefer to stick to Scan, Ebuyer or Amazon.

I got my logitech z4's for 37 + 8 delivery = 45 pounds from pixmania, great deal and I'm very happy with them!

I think for this kind of money you can't get anything better...

    Re: Speakers

Sorry for the revival, but I've now narrowed it down to the Z-2300s or the M Audio AV40s (Space permitting). Any thoughts?

    Re: Speakers

Hi,Aego M's prob most recommended speakers i have seen, for the price.Look on AVforums etc, most have a lot dearer set up's,but still recommend them,or use them for PC use etc.Might be a SuperFi shop near you, were you might be able to listen to them.
Not heard of SuperFi,SevenOaks,Richer Sounds?,highstreet based HiFi etc company.
Haven't checked stuff out,but i can guess with a bit of research who i would probably buy from.
PC stuff might be hard to decide on,but get in those AV,HiFi forums, its even worse ,more opinionated, personal etc,if nothing else, one thing whatever you buy,you can't beat the room your using it/them etc in.Or trying before you buy, pref in room your going to use it/them in.

I have the older model and the bass can be overpowering at full ( i have a noise pollution letter to back that up btw some one lied and said we had partys every weekend )
most of the time it is set to low and medium and is fine for music and TV
Mind you i have mine in the living room
