as im out of touch with anything intel i was hoping for a little advice - does anyone know the fastest processor & its associated slot type i can stick in my old sv24 - it currently has an epia 800 & needs a little more poke to run divx nice n smooth...

Fastest chip you will be able to put in the sv24 is a 1gig P3 :) You may have problems finding one tho :(
And it doesn't take the later Tualtin PIII's or celerons!

One of those CPU's should be OK as long as they are not Tualtin CPU's. SV24 will support a 133Mhz FSB. It will be faster than the Epia you have now - I did the same thing in my sv24 - changed a PIII 750 to a VIA 500 CPU and went back to a PIII 750 and it was noticably faster (in relative terms anyway!) Mine's gonna be retiring soon (Bigpockets to blame :) ) - may find another use for it though!
The SV24 doesn't support the tualatin officially, but the SV25 does
theres a pin mod but not sure if it works for shuttles
u can put out a pin on the tualtins and make them recognise as a normal coppermine
ask meltdown man, im sure he did it, but it might be only for intel chipsets, you need to check your shuttle first
otherwise 1ghz p3, if not then 1.4 ghz p3/celeron
