Can't see why it wouldn't work.
Some of the hard drive tools available let you copy HDD's from one to the other. (one of them was Acronis TI based but, I can't remember which now)
Or you could use Acronis true image or disk director.
Just doing a simple 'copy' of the contents of the drive will not work, you would need to take an image of the existing drive and then put this onto the new drive
I never got round to doing it with the new machine yet, but with the old one I installed Windows and the basic drivers/software that I needed and then took an image of this bare install so that if I ever needed (or wanted) to have a fresh install it only took about 8 minutes to get the system up and running again - all that was needed after that was to install the latest graphics drivers and any windows updates really and it was all ready to go

Get yourself Acronis and use the Clone tool it has.
Maxtor max blast 5 is Acronis.
So's the Seagate version. They'll work only if one of your HDs is Maxtor or Seagate.
I prefer Paragon Partition Manager as it lets you tinker with partition sizes properly as well as allowing cloning.
