Looking to Buy a New DVDRW.

OK, I had to RMA my cheap Toshiba DVDRW back to Ebuyer, so I want to get a more expensive one now..

    What do you think?

I like the look of the Plextor's, and of Sony range.

Does anyone know of any good sites which provide a round up etc?

    Thx

Plextor ones are very nice but very expensive.

The Sony ones are some of the worst on the market. Very fussy with media.

Sony are fine if you buy half decent media.

I have just ordered the NEC 2500A but still waiting for delivery. Doesn't help much I know but that's was my choice after deciding against Plextor on cost grounds.

another vote here for the NEC 2500A 8x +/- R/RW - quiet, fast, burns almost every type/brand of disc - exactly same as pioneer 107 - some even say better!

what more could you want for £60?

I have a Plextor 708A and it is very nice. A very nice drive for 'backing up' I must add . They dont have a wish to stop you transfer music cd's to your computer like sony do.
I was very impressed with plextor's warranty service as well. my drive stopped reading cd's for some reason, dvd's were still fine, but anyway I sent them an error report and got an RMA number the next day, then all I had to do was ring the number given to arrange for a free courier pickup. They received the drive after a couple days, and I had a brand new replacement within the week.
    A very imprerssive service

Plextor have also brought out their P712A
Obviously a 12x write speed, hence the name. HAven't seen it for sale in the UK yet, but maybe wait until that comes out and buy that ? Or buy the 708A as it must go down in price.
