Different 4870's will have different power draws?
Basically just wondering if this is a logical assumption.
Say if I changed my powercolor 4870 512mb PCS+ to the sapphire toxic 512mb - the power draw on the 12v rails would be different.
I ask because right now I Think Im JUST about running my system (click linky thing) with 4 hdd's on my 430watt.
THanks.
Re: Different 4870's will have different power draws?
They are both reference boards I think, so at the same clock and memory speeds the power consumption will be similar (like with CPUs different chips use different amounts of power when they should be identical) obviously if one has higher clocks then that will require more power to run.
Your PSU should be fine for 4870 it has 3x 16A 12v rails which assuming Antec are not complete fools should be distributed sufficiently to power the 4870 and everything else you have without blinking.

Hi Oobie,
You could run your system information through our Antec PSU Calculator for a more comprehensive answer. You can find it at the Antec website in the Support drop-down menu.

I personally find that this calculator overestimate between 30~50% in terms of wattage, perhaps less if you look in terms of 12V amperage.
I couldn't load my system past 300W real load with all cores at max, gpu running 95% and harddrives doing surface scan when the calculator says 455W.
If there is any power draw difference on different 4870s, will probably be from the power circuitary, shouldn't amount to more than 15W if any.

ah right, ok. THanks guys.
Re: Different 4870's will have different power draws?
Ok, new question:
Would a 1gb version have a greater power draw than a 512mb version?
Thanks
(PS. Pixmania are doing a 1gb sapphire card for 169inc + P&P!)

Yes, though not hugely.
