    P45 mobo recomendations

Hiya currently looking for a bit of knowledgeable insight in order to help me narrow down the following boards:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/DFI-D...-SATA-RAID-ATX

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Biost...-SATA-RAID-ATX

Or any other suggestions for around the £100 mark.

CPU will be either Q6600 or E8500 - still to decide on that one too!

Looking for a decent overcloackable on air, nothing too extreme tbh.

Cheers in advance guys, and have a good chrimbo!

    Re: P45 mobo recomendations

personally, i'd go for the DFI Lanparty for the following reasons:

    1) appearance is much nicer
    2) appears to have better NB cooling.
    3) angled SATA ports - makes it easier to route cables.
    4) BIOS read-out which makes it easier to work out what's wrong with your PC if anything ever goes wrong (touch wood it won't )

hope that helps you come to a decision

    and Q6600 ftw!

Cheers mate, any particular reason for the q6600 ..... I know it overclocks like a beast but surely the same is true for the 8500 too?

    Re: P45 mobo recomendations

the Q6600 and E8500 will both overclock very well..
but the Q6600 is cheaper than the E8500.
it all depends what you want it for really.
dual cores are apparently better for gaming because most games can only use 1 core and that 1 core is usually clocked much higher, but i've got a Q6600 and it plays all games just fine.

I have the DFI, I've found it great so far, it's personal choice really, have also heard good things about the Biostar boards.

    Re: P45 mobo recomendations

thinking of DFI .... however they're are two and cannot find the difference for the life of me despite re-reading it twice, all I can see is that one says 'plus'

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/DFI-D...-SATA-RAID-ATX

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/DFI-L...00-SATA-II-ATX

Actually saying that, not sure if there is a difference in the PCI Express - if it helps, going to be a gtx 260 going in and 4gb of corsair dominator, which again there are two very similar options, one with a fan being nearly £20 cheaper but again, no other difference that i can see!

The difference in mobos is one has 2 extra sata ports and is based on a newer chip, allowing better overclocking, apparently.

    It's 4.98*

Firstly that was quite confusing to read, where you've written "they're are two" I assume you meant to write "there are two". Of those two motherboards the only difference I can notice is that one has two extra SATA ports.

I'd consider looking at the Asus P5Q Pro too, from personal experience I know it's a decent board that can hold a reasonable overclock.

    Re: P45 mobo recomendations

I've got the BIOSTAR under the christmas tree... god damn.. i want to rip it open and get it out to test it (for you of course ), though it will have to wait...

I have to agree with the above though, the DFI Lanparty looks nice and the one thing I do miss with whats under my tree is the angled sata cables.

If you are going to pay that bit extra over the Biostar, get the Lanparty I guess, though there is another Biostar model: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=906799
Its £7 more than the Lanparty and if it was me and I had the extra cash, I'd go for the more expensive Biostar..

But ofcourse, it depends on budget and personal opinion
