If I were you, I'd save a bit more money then upgrade the entire rig. For modern games, even if upgraded, that rig is not gonna cut it.

How exactly will a Socket 939 CPU fit into a socket A motherboard ?

should have looked the motherboard up my mistake and yeah save up money and buy a whole new pc
maybe sell your current one for like 150-200 quid

I would agree with Vmong, get another 1GB of RAM and a new graphics card, btw ive got an 8800GTX spare, PM me if you happen to be interested.

socket a = agp at the best, so no 8800gtx.
gotta agree with most replies, for gaming a complete overhaul would be far better spent money.
if you must stick with your main system, an agp 3850 and some ram are most likely the best bet.
or get a 1tb harddrive. will speed the system up and be of use in the future.

IMHO it would be better to save up some more money and do a full system upgrade.

However if you want to upgrade now you can get an HD3850 AGP card from Play.com for 85 quid:

Hopefully it should be OK on your current PSU if the power requirements are similar to the existing card you have. If not you should get a new PSU.

Your CPU will still hold back your graphics card though.

You should also be able to get another 1gb of RAM with the remainder of your budget.

If you sell your existing graphics card on Ebay you should be able to get at least 50 to 60 quid for it.

Your existing CPU and motherboard should also get around 60 quid too on Ebay.

Hence you could have a total budget of at least 200 quid if you sell your CPU,motherboard and graphics card!!

This would mean you could get the following instead:

AMD X2 5200+ - around 50 quid
Cheap motherboard - around 35 quid
2gb RAM - under 20 quid
9600GT - 75 quid
Silverstone 350w/Silverpower 400w - around 25 quid
SATA DVD drive (as most new motherboards have only one IDE connector) - around 15 quid

Total: around 220 quid.

If you have a retail copy of XP you will need to re-register it though. If you have a preinstalled XP copy though I am uncertain if you can reinstall this or whether you would to get a new copy?

For good news the Hard drive and case are salvageable

If money is an issue then you could check ebay for an ASRock 4coredual-vsta motherboard and a cheap socket 775 cpu.
That will let you continue to use your ddr memory and agp graphics card, while letting you get a pci-e graphics card and ddr2 memory later on.
This is purely a step-by-step upgrade solution so you can save up between buying individual components.
