About to buy, any changes?
Hi,
Im about to buy this setup, (tonight if possible), and was wondering, any changes you would reccomend?
Thanks
Setup:
Zalman F3 £4.47
Thermalright 120 Ultra, (not the extreme) £29.89
LG GH22NS30 £12.64
22" Digimate-DGM L-2248WD Piano Black £90.97
e7300 £89.69 (£35 less than the e8400)
620W Coolermaster Real Power M620 Modular PSU £60.95
Biostar TPower i45 £109.03
9800GTX+ £115
640gb WD (320gb platter version) £44.47
SHipping £7.95
GPU and HDD off of aria, the rest off of scan, although, by the looks of it, I will have to get a new account to get the free shipping, (i changed the email adress for my scan account to the one i used here, but no luck....)
Thanks

Re: About to buy, any changes?
i wouldn't buy anything off of Aria, i bought an 8800GT off there in march and it was DOA, so they tried to blame me for tampering with it..
just no Aria, JUST NO!
the rest seems fairly spot on :)
what about an ATi 4850 512/1024 instead of the 9800GTX+ ?

Re: About to buy, any changes?
Several of these items are currently on offer somewhere ... (can't think where ;)) - as for the free shipping, well some of us are at work tomorrow - so dropping a PM with your real name, postcode and email address will let me check it tomorrow for you :)

Re: About to buy, any changes?
Well, I have had friends who have bought loads of stuff over there......
But, the 9800GTX+ is off of aria, and its one of the superspecials, so its at a great price, but its also really good for folding....
The same applies to the hard drive, its a great price, it was either 44 for 640gb (320gb platter), or 41 for the samsung 500gb F1........
Instead of the 9800GTX+, should I go for the 9800GT? (I know it wont perform aswell, but, save me some money, which is always a positive........?)
(£90 compared to £115, and from scan, so free delivery)
Thanks

Re: About to buy, any changes?
Well: Graphics, hard drive, monitors, cpu - and more - is currently on offer till monday :)
-
Re: About to buy, any changes?
go for the 9800GT if it'll save you money and you don't need the extra performance..
-
Re: About to buy, any changes?
Well, I dont know whether I need the extra performance.... It will be running a 22inch monitor, so I might need the axtra horsepower of the 9800GTX+
But what about the cpu, is the e8400 worth the £35 over the e7300?
David, I have looked, and the motherboard, monitor, cpu, and DVD drive are all from the today sale,
However, the e8400 is £10 cheaper on aria, and so even with delivery its still cheaper, and the 9800GTX+, cheapest you have is £148, and aria has it for £115........
Thanks

Re: About to buy, any changes?
The CPU from aria is £7.90 less than Scan (today only), but delivery is free compared to £7.99 from aria (their delivery in the basket doesn't include VAT). Not much of a saving, but still a saving, and the bonus of it all arriving at once :)
The 9800GTX+ from aria is still around £26 cheaper when delivered, but is likely Palit/Xpertvision, good or bad, but the warranties and bundles are alot less. You also get the convenience of it all arriving at once when you order from just one place.

Re: About to buy, any changes?
Regardless, is it worth the extra money?
I mean, I will be overclocking, (just for max freq/superpi to begin with), but eventually will probs stick at something, .36GHz atleast, probs go for 4......
On the graphics card front, im just not sure how much power I need.
Bundlewise, unless it comes with a game, im not that bothered, and warranty, meh, as long as it has one, :P
But you would say stick with the 9800GTX+ rather than the 9800GT for instance?
Thanks

Re: About to buy, any changes?
Personally, i'd go with a 4850, but yeah, don't get the 9800GT unless you're on a budget
-
Re: About to buy, any changes?
Well, I used a 4850 in a build I did recently for a friend, and yeah, its good, but, no good at folding, and I would like to use a nvidia card in this build, (as I used ati in the last), to get an idea of how they perform compared to each other, personally, rather than just reviews.
And, I am on a budget, however, I can afford to get the 9800GTX+....
So, what kinda clocks do you think I might be able to get? (both max and 24/7)
So the rest of the system is up to scratch?
Thanks

Re: About to buy, any changes?
I have just seen a 8800GTS 512 for £95, free delivery, worth it? (I know it has less performance, but...)
Thanks....

Re: About to buy, any changes?
8800GTS is more powerful than the 9800GT and just below the GTX+, worth it if you need to save money

Re: About to buy, any changes?
So,
I could go for that, and maybe then afford the e8400, (for overclocking) (around £580)
Could go for the e7300 and get the 9800GTX+ (for gaming) (around £570)
Or, could go for the 8800GTS and the e7300, (for not bad at either, and saving me money) (around £540) (and could probs buy a game or two)
Which would you go for? (I cannot spend anything over £600, and obviously would rather spend as little as possible, without losing too much performance)
So, you might want to suggest something else..........

from my experience, you dont really need to overclock for game play, i play on e6600 on stock and there is nothing wrong with it.. just get the cheapest options all the way..

Re: About to buy, any changes?
So, you would suggest get the 8800GTS, and save 20?
I will defo be getting the e7300 the e8400 just isnt worth the £35 extra..
The 8800GTS performas similarly to the GTX at lower resolutions I thought, (defo when overclocked)
So, how does your comp do with gaming? (and what res)
Thanks

if your talking to me :juggle: then my gaming rig is run on a 20" at native resoloution i do have a 24", but its in my room for work and general use. but on the 20" it runs like a dream! i did hear that the GTX is better on larger resolutions i may eventually move the GTX but for now its not necessary as i only play CoD. i have no experience with the GTS. apart from the 8600 GTS old but it does work well even at 20" but on smoke and lots of gunfire its laggy. the thing is, when you buy a gfx card you will want the best to handle thing and not even notice the limitations of your hardware. the only reason i have a separate computer is tht the phone line is downstairs and if i moved the GTX into my room, it will be noisey which is something that i have worked hard to avoid. but i was thinking of aftermarket cooling as it is very effective!! but the GTX gets INSANELY hott!

Re: About to buy, any changes?
Yeah, I was talking to you, :P
Well, I think im just gonna go for the 9800GTX+, just spend the extra, and get the better card, hopefully be able to overclock it a bit, and so it will just last a little longer, I mean, Its still under £600, so......
But I wont spend anymore, as I want to move to watercooling eventually, and so money saved here means the sooner I can get a water cooling setup, :D:D:D
Thanks

Re: About to buy, any changes?
haha thank me in my posts ;)
yeah with regards to the over clocking the 9800gtx, i seriously wouldn't bother over clocking the card is a beast and only over clock IF you need to!
if my 8800gtx (stock clock) can handle it yours definitely can!!
