Can an Antec P182 case house a Corsair HX1000W PSU?

    Hi all,

Could anyone advise me whether I have ordered the right case for my PSU?

Today I have ordered the some computer components from Scan.co.uk, including an Antec P182 case, without PSU, as I intend to transfer my existing Corsair HX1000W PSU into this case.

However, after reading one of the Hexus reviews on this particular case, especially the one that mentions that the case’s predecessor was unable to take all PSU manufacturers, got me weary.

Can anyone confirm to me that the Antec P182 is capable of housing a Corsair HX1000W power supply unit?

If not I may have to modify my order, before it get delivered on Saturday.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Yes it will fit BUT you will have to remove the fan and housing in the lower chamber I would imagine.

Different case might be a good idea (Antec's 1200 will work nicely) but it will work.

Re: Can an Antec P182 case house a Corsair HX1000W PSU?

Is that relatively easy to do?
Will it have adverse effect on the case over heating?

The fan is simple enough to get out I believe, the housing perhaps not (although you might not have to get rid of that).

Wouldn't worry about overheating. It's cool in the lower chamber and there is vents at the front for the fan to pull fresh air in.

This is what you are dealing with space wise

If you need a 1000W PSU I expect the 182 will struggle to cool the hardware!

Depends if you are adding the 2x 120mm fans to the top HDD cage. Then it becomes a fantastic cooling case.

Changed the pic to show the cooling options. So you lose the blue arrow airflow but the PSU will take care of itself and the HDD's in the bottom cage (according the SPCR..)

Then the middle chamber is sorted by the extra 2 120's, the HSF and original 2x 120mm's.

    Thank you for the advice.

I am not sure if I am ready to start “damaging a new case”!

The system I have ordered is pretty substantial and I am limited in my budget. The other components I have ordered are:
    - 320 GB Western Digital, SATA 300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.9 ms
    - 500 GB Western Digital, SATA 300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.9 ms
    - Intel i7 920, Socket 1366 (B), Nehalem, 2.66GHz, Cache 8MB, Retail
    - Asus P6T Deluxe, Intel X58, Sok 1366, PCI-E 2.0, DDR3 1066/1333/1600(OC), SAS/SATAII, ATX
    - 6GB (3x2GB) CorsairXMS3, DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333) 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24
    - Lite-On IHAS120-30 20x DVD±R, 8x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, x12 DVD-RAM SATA Black & Silver Retail
    - Microsoft Windows XP pro OEM (I am aware that Win XP can only handle 3.5 GB RAM, but I intend to upgrade the OS when Windows 7 gets released).

I could otherwise buy another case like the one I already have, but I find it a bit noisy. The current one is going to be used as spare PC. This case is a Silverstone TJ05 with temperature detector.

Re: Can an Antec P182 case house a Corsair HX1000W PSU?

I have removed the bottom fan in mine and it was easy, and replaced it at the front of the case ( Mikes green arrow ). I have a Silverstone 850 in mine and it was a bit of a struggle to be honest especially the wiring ( not modular ) and the circle were the fan was is kinda sharp.

Re: Can an Antec P182 case house a Corsair HX1000W PSU?

This just proves to me that I should play it safe. Therefore it would be best for me to change my order with Scan slightly and get another case instead. I shall do that tomorrow.

I wouldn’t want to spend more than £120 including vat on the case, so again it may be that I will have to settle for yet another of the Silverstone TJ05 case, as I know that my PSU fits well in this case

Besides if I was to damage the P182 case by attempting such experiment, I would void its warranty.

Thank you all for your contribution and assistance in this matter.

    This was most beneficial.

    Should be fine i'v got a p182 and an antec quattro 850W 15cm (W) x 8.6cm (H) x 18cm (D) compare the size with your psu.

Just take the fan out and move it to the middle (front) like others have said

Re: Can an Antec P182 case house a Corsair HX1000W PSU?

Well you wouldn't void the warranty and antec will send you pretty much any replacement parts you need. Just email them and say it was broke when you got it

The antec 1200 is probably a decent bet. Akasa Omega isn't as quiet but is huge.

Coolermaster CM-590 or CM-690 are worth a look though, great cases especially the latter imo.

Re: Can an Antec P182 case house a Corsair HX1000W PSU?

Your system Rix, is better in terms of GPU power. I will be transferring my Gainward 9800GT Bliss 1024MB Golden Sample to this new system, hopefully aiming at a budget high performance system.

The old system will inherit an older Corsair HX520W PSU and an Evga 8800GTS 1024MB I also have as spare.

I am going to have a quick look at the cases suggested by StaffMike.

I have to admit that I believe in honesty, and it would be against my principles to say that a system was received broken when it is not the case.

    Can I make a suggestion..

You're not going to like it but.. The 520W will run that system without issue. So why not use the 1000W for the spare lol

Re: Can an Antec P182 case house a Corsair HX1000W PSU?

I was told that for the 9800GT the HX520W was not sufficient power.
Well it does not harm to have a better PSU especially for future improvements.

Another solution would be to transfer what I have in the current system into the Antec P182, barring the PSU and GPU.

But then I don't know if it is possible to unscrew the motherboard without having to remove the Retail CPU fan that came with the Core 2 Duo E6750. Basically this was the first system that I built with the guidance of a friend.

So my knowledge is limited and this is the reason why I am weary at attempting some of the more exotic solutions.
