E8400 will not work with MSI Neo-F p35

    Hi,

    it's been a terrible day.

I recently upgraded to e8400, after using a e2180 for 5 months along with specs in my signature/profile.

It wouldnt boot past the MSI/BIOS screen no matter what so i decided that the BIOS needed updating (i was on 1.7) and flashed/updated via live update to 1.10.

i then put the e8400 and it booted past the bios screen (i can also access the bios) to the "boot with safe mode, normal settings, etc etc" screen. But, no matter what you choose on this screen, it just restarts and loops this cycle of booting to that, then falling over again and again.

The e2180 still works in it, but not the e8400.

HELP! What is at fault here? I can't test cpu in another pc because i dont have one thats 775 socket. The motherboard came "core 2 duo ready" but apparently not!

    What do i do?!

    Thanks,

    Ollie

Have you tried clearing the CMOS settings? (the button above the USB headers)

Also, try flashing it *not* with the live update thing - in-windows flashing can often cause problems. I tried it on my system once (Gigabyte's utility, not MSI), and it messed with my drive's custom MBR, requiring some messing around.

Sounds like you need to flash to the latest bios, you can get it from the MSI website and put it on a floppy (if you have one) or a CD/USB drive and follow the instructions in your manual for flashing the bios.
