CPU Cooling - Thermalright True Black
I'm almost certain that the Thermalright True Black is the cooler for me (in my Antec 900 build) on the Q6600 / Q6700 i suspect. The thing i'm wondering is if i'll see any benefit with the Push & Pull 2-fan setup that some use with it.
I'm wondering whether Push & Pull will:
-Increase Airflow, inturn letting me put both fans on lets say 'low' rather than a single fan on 'medium'.
-If Push & Pull actually works like it should (anyone with any experience)
-Work better with two identical fans or two different fans.
Now here's what I was wondering mainly:
Identical Fans
Whether two identical fans (therefore the same CFM) will work better, due to the same amount of air being pulled in and pushed out.
Different Fans (or different CFM)
If i have two different fans, or just different CFM on the fans (due to different rpm) would this affect the performance of Push & Pull. Heres the two things i thought..
If a strong fan is pushing air in and a weaker fan is "pulling" it out.. would it be inefficient? Having the whole resistence of a slower / lower CFM and all.. or would it still perform better than the single strong fan on its own?
If the weak fan is 'pushing' the air in.. and the strong one 'pulling' it out, would this just be defeating the object of the weaker fan, as the stronger one would surely be pulling additional air through the weaker one aswell as what its supplying.
Basically, i'm wondering what setup is best:
-2 Identical Fans with same CFM
-Strong Fan pushing air in, weak fan pulling it out..
-Weak fan pushing air in, Strong one pulling it out.
Finally, on a seperate note, I'm expecting the True Black to fit in my Antec 900.. i'm not using the side panel fan. It should be ok right?
Thanks for your help :)
Re: CPU Cooling - Thermalright True Black
I don't think you'll notice any actual difference at all. The TRUE is an excellent cooler with only one fan, you won't be able to improve on that significantly by adding an extra fan!

This is true (no pun intended lolololbbq!)
I know that you can drop temperatures on a true by using push pull 38mm fans, but that's ridiculously loud...
Re: CPU Cooling - Thermalright True Black
extra fan of the same helps temps by 2-3C at most on prime load, not really that much
Re: CPU Cooling - Thermalright True Black
hasn't TAKTAK done this to his TRUE?
PM him? :)

i'll see if i can point him towards this thread then.. he's usually more than happy to help out people :)
Re: CPU Cooling - Thermalright True Black
And as per a Matty special request, i have arrived..
For you with the Antec 900 you won't notice much difference by using 2 fans as opposed to one, as there is plenty of room for the air to be dispersed.
Now in my case (no pun intended ;)), my lil' Lian Li A05 has, TBH, quite limited airflow, even with the blowhole mod, so anything that can help the airflow to be laminar through the cooler and spend as little time inside the case is a big bonus.
Also, the 2 fans help to disperse more air from the PWM and MOSFET coolers, as there is essentially, more active airflow going over them as they are on both sides of the cooler.
Basically, using 2 fans doesn't put much more air through... it just means that the air is kept laminar and therefore the heat spends less time in contact with components before it is exhausted.
So in essence, what i am saying is, if you have decent room in your case, then there is no requirement for dual fans in push-pull.
For cases with more impeded airflow, it can help to keep things running smoothly.
One thing you shouldn't do is put 2 different fans on it... Otherwise the fans will end up battling against each other and cause more heat, i run both of my fans off a fan splitter cable, and use high quality fans, so that:
A: both fans spin at the same speed
B: it is nice and quiet
C: see B :D
So unless your going for the top O/C then 1 fan is fine, and cheaper
edit: review including single and dual fan setups with a TRUE http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coo...ra120ex_5.html

Ok, thanks for that.. what i reckon I will do is setup with a single fan (once i've purchased of course :P) and stress the system to get a temperature and then stick a second identical fan in and do the same test again.. that way I'll know which is running better etc, but also will be able to help others with the question (if there will be any.. thats another question) as I had.
Thanks for the response :)
