best place to buy pre-built system?

hi guys,

my cousin is on the lookout for a new PC, he has had his current one for about 7-8 years

anyhow, he wants a pre-built system and is leaning towards dell because they do nice packages although if it was me I would put the money into some parts and build it myself, but where else is there that do good pre-built systems?

budget is ~£550 for the tower.

monitor budget ~£150 for a 22/24"

keyboard/mouse/speakers not needed!

any help much appreciated!

it's £800 with a 4850 and a 22" monitor (you have to change those 2 things yourself)

That is correct appreciate you having a look, aria and microdirect were the obvious first 2 choices because they are just around the corner. MD didn't appear to have much to offer in terms of pre-built but aria did, around that price range.

what does he want to use the computer for?

Mainly browsing the internet, watching films and playing games.

Because he upgrades so rarely, like I said hes still using his PC from YEARS ago, this one will most likely be around for the next 5 years at least, therefore quad core, 4gb ram, and a good gfx card are all essential I reckon. Let me know what you can find

Didn't notice that I think you edited it in your post later, but yeah thats too expensive, £700 is an absolute max really.

Can't blame the fellow for having a 7+ year old system, I have one I still use frequently that is a pre-built Medion, coming onto 7 years of use. Funnily, it has not been upgraded once apart from the DVD Writer, if you can call that an upgrade.

Will have to upgrade/scrap it soon, you can blatantly tell it's age now, especially having another system.

That one looks pretty good to me except for the PSU, Hiper are pants.

Have a look at what Novatech have to offer, I've found them to be reasonably priced and a good company to deal with.

It has the Q6600, ATI HD4850, 3GB DDR3 RAM, I had to add the 23" S2309 Monitor to come to the price of £769 inc. of VAT & Shipping.

Giving Dell a ring in the past has helped me to lower the price slightly, you could try the same, you would obviously need the code D01X302 for the above system, adding the monitor to it if ringing up to get that price.

From the looks of it on dmxdimension, there's a Dell coupon for 10% discount on this page:

The coupon is valid to midnight 31st December 2008 apparently.

Edit: The monitor seems to be VGA only, so it would be best to look a different monitor on the site or to add the 21.5" S2209W monitor, bringing total cost down to £758.99 inc. of VAT & Shipping. I can't also comment on the monitors as I don't have either.
