Need a reasonable but cheap AM2 motherboard.
Hi newbie here after a bit of advice, i just upgraded one of my pc's and after scratching about i have pretty much got enough "spares" to put together another pc, i just need a motherboard. Thing is i don't really want to spend more than £40 for a mobo on what is basically a backup pc.
Rest of the specs will be
AMD X2 5200
1950Pro 256mb
Antec 300 case
OCZ PSU 500w
2GB (2x 1gb sticks)
80gb hard drive
DVDROM
Windows XP
Might even get a cheapo tv card to put in it.
So what can you recommend?
Cheers
:)
Re: Need a reasonable but cheap AM2 motherboard.
This motherboard should come to just under 40 quid with postage:

If you want to have better forward compatibility it would be better to get a 740g or 780g chipset motherboard. These would cost between 40 to 50 quid though.
Re: Need a reasonable but cheap AM2 motherboard.
Thanks for the reply and link.
I don't mind spending a little more, within reason, if its going to make a worthwhile difference. I don't forsee any major upgrades to this system for a while so phenom compatibility, whilst it would be nice, isn't enirely necessary.
Any one else have any suggestions?
Re: Need a reasonable but cheap AM2 motherboard.
i would stick with an ati chipsetted mobo, but at that price catthefithh's suggestion is a steal. just needs checking for how it copes with the 45nm phenom II's - but i think it would be fine - you may not even care about that in which case buy buy buy
Re: Need a reasonable but cheap AM2 motherboard.
According to the Asus website it supports both Phenoms AND AM3 so i think we have a winner  unless someone can find better? Which is looking more and more unlikely.
Thanks.
Re: Need a reasonable but cheap AM2 motherboard.
Hey mac, nice to see you over here :)
I think thats the best board you're gonna get, especially if it supports phenom :)
Re: Need a reasonable but cheap AM2 motherboard.
yep, that could potentially do you as the basis for a main comp in the future, which is a mighty good thing to be buying into.
Re: Need a reasonable but cheap AM2 motherboard.
Hiya Pete, someone suggested i try here for some advice for this mobo so here i am
It certainly looks like a reasonable mobo, specially for the price.
Thanks for the help guys, i would thankyou officially, when i learn how to :help:
