Scanner/USB Reciever Issue

Hello,

Have installed a new scanner for old pictures and slides to a pc, all software etc is installed and appeared to be working fine until scanning a picture and the image appear very poor quality and blurry. I worked out that when i unplugged the USB internet reciever from the same pc the picture quality improved. Ive tried the scanner on a separate laptop without a usb reciever and the pic quality was fine. Any ideas why a usb reciever would effect a scanners pic quality?

What is a USB reciever?

Wireless network? Bluetooth? wirless keyboard/mouse?

Sounds like a driver issue, why it would happen I have no idea though.

Sorry should have explained that better, its a belkin USB wireless internet reciever (stick).

Seriously though. Was this with the image preview or with the final scan? I guess if the wireless adapter was reducing overall USB bandwidth the preview image would reduce in quality, however the final scan quality shouldn't be affected, it would just be slower than normal.

So if it was a bandwidth prob, is ther eanything i could do to fix it or should i just unplug the reciever when using the scanner? Would a hardware conflict be likely?

The other thing is that the router is in the corner of the living room near the window. The PC is at the back of the garage in the corner furthest away from the router. If he plugs the USB stick directly into the PC it doesn't pick up the signal from the wireless router, so he uses the USB extension cable to hang the wireless receiver up so it can pick up the signal from the router. Would this extension cable be causing an issue as well?

You could try using different ports. Even if a system has 6 or 8 physical USB ports, a chipset will only have a few actual ports, the rest are effectively on little hubs coming from those master ports. This means the bandwidth is shared between them.

You could try moving the connectors around to see if you can get them on different sets of ports, then there wouldn't be a bandwidth issue. There should be less chance of a compatability problem between them as well.
