    MSI Wind U100

I got so close to buying the acer one I was literally asking every guy in comet to go and get me one, but none of them bothered... cretins.

So with more time to think I spotted the MSI wind on scan for £250 on supersavers. Decided to give it a go and I'm really happy with it. Battery life is probably about the same as the acer.. naff. The thing that sold me in the end was the heat and noise as well as the bigger screen and keyboard

Arrived today, used my sharkoon drive link and good old DVD drive to install windows. It comes with an XP driver disk even though it is a Linux based one.

It's all up and running and I'm really happy with it overall. The one thing I don't like is a niggle really and that is the fn and ctrl key are the wrong way round so most functions I'm used to doing without thinking I can't do without huting for the key.

Overall though it's awesome. Comes with a nice leather case, feels really solid overall and looks really good too, better than the acer which I certainly thought looked the best before I saw this in black.

So I spent more than I said I would in that other thread but I think it was worth it as the keybaord is so much more comfortable than the acer to me, I'm already touch typing on it

    Re: MSI Wind U100

I've had one since they were released, and use it more than I expected to. Battery wise the 6 cell Medion Mini E1210 battery works and is available from medion shop uk (£50), or there loads on ebay. I changed the wifi card on my one and shoved some extra ram in it, then dual booted OSX, dropped OSX but might set it up again if I swap out the HD with one from a portable enclosure.

    Re: MSI Wind U100

Thanks for the tip on the battery Will looks into that as that will still only be £300 with both batteries.

Oh and the HDD is Western Digital .. BONUS!!

    Re: MSI Wind U100

Just read with the v1.09 bios you can do single button overclocking (was wondering what fn+F10 did when I noticed it).

    Goes to 2.0Ghz

Yeah I posted about the overclocking a while back, don't have to try it on though. Oha nd remember overclocking will reduce your battery life

    Re: MSI Wind U100

Lol the battery life sucks anyway, at least it would get things done quicker

In all honesty though, a new battery at £50 will give this thing 8 hours battery (with the two combined) and the potential to run 2.0GHz. Makes it more and more worth it.

Still cheaper than Samsung albeit with half the hard drive.. but it's western digital which more than makes up for it

i won't be trying it just yet as apparently it makes the fan run all the time, so I will find out how much noise it makes before I start messing around.

    Re: MSI Wind U100

I just got a Advent 4211 (MSI Wind U100) from MD and have been looking at batteries. There are a 6 cell and 9 cell you can get, but the 9 cell looks massive! So I am going to try and get a 5200mah 6 cell from ebay instead of the normal 4400mah 6 cell. More power in the same size. Should be good for 4 hrs of use.

    Re: MSI Wind U100

Just reading about a modified v1.09 bios. It's very tempting as it swaps the annoying ctrl and fn key around and thus makes sense as a keyboard again..

Decisions Decisions. I shall play at the weekend.

Do it you know you want to!

What is the point of having one if its stock got to be modded or custom or its just not right
