    Other 1.5TB drives

Does anyone have any clues as to when other 1.5TB drives are going to appear?

The current Seagate is incredibly cheap, but it is only rated for desktop use, not in large RAID arrays. I have 5x 500GB drives to replace with 1.5TB drives, but i don't want to use the existing ones, especially as Thecus are having issues with them.

Are there any rumours as to when other models are going to be available? What about other manufacturers?

    Thanks.

may even be a 2TB WD coming if rumours are to be believed. which at the very least will shut the prices of the rest down a bit

    Re: Other 1.5TB drives

A 2TB WD, especially a RAID edition would be nice.

That would keep me going for a while

I could actually replace all five of my 500GB drives with just two of them in RAID-1 then expand from there.

How do you need 2TB of data if you don't mind me asking?!

    Re: Other 1.5TB drives

I have two NAS boxes, one with 5x 500GB drives in RAID-5, the other with 5x 1TB Drives in RAID-5

I have a large music and video content (all bought and paid for) as well as photos, backups, downloads, etc. I'm expecting a large amount of my own created video content this year which will need to be stored while editing.

You can never have too much storage

    Re: Other 1.5TB drives

I'm currently looking into getting more storage as it will be useful for backing up, and I plan on playing around with videos if I get a new camcorder.
Will be interesting to see what comes out, but I'm not sure ont he best way to set them up.
NAS look expensive, so it looks asif installing more in the PC will have to be the option. Will this mean I'll need to use all of that confusing BIOS and RAID settings? :S

And thats a good reason for NAS boxes. They are appliances, you don't need to mess about with them and as they are all in one units, there isn't the temptation to mess around with them.

I used to carry almost a dozen 100MB zip disks with me to uni for downloads. Before the days of USB external drives. Also back in the days I used to download bad copies of films I'd never heard of or watched, simply because it was there

Same here in my early days of uni. Then they started replacing the computers with ones containing "superdisk" drives instead of zip drives. Don't think I ever had a chance to make use of them before that standard was obsolete.

We only get 50mb, and their server has been broked since a few weeks b4 xmas...they still say they are trying to fix it.

Its a simple problem with the data server for all our documents (I could imagian the technition sitting there puzzeled wondering why his RAID 0 drive config would not restore itself Whenever I meantion RAID to the IT teachers they are confused and the tecnitions are not much better. They would not give me the passcode for wireless, so I brought in a eathernet cable)

Oww, that would be nice. Suppose it will be about £200 tho, may cause 1TB to drop alot though
